I think if the police got peoples cats out of trees they would still be doing something good because it probably means they dont have wankers like Raoul Moat to while away 6 hours with in a stand off.
I think in most cases the police are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I saw a proggy about the russian police bout a year ago, they don't fuck about, you piss about & they retaliate, hard & very fast, they won't just fire one or two shots either. Some drug dealer they were after was suspected of having a weapon on his person, when the went to apprehend him, he made a move as though going for a gun, they proceded to hit him with over 1/2 rounds, tackled the guy to the floor & by the end of it, he had plenty of Batton bruises/wounds to remind him to NOT fuck about any further.
