I can remember seeing The Wicker Man in a double bill with Don't Look Now. What amazing value the cinema was in those days.
Just watched El Cid (free in the Daily Mail - and if you scan the DVD and leave the paper, Sainsbury's charge you 1p for it). When it got to "Riding with my king" I blubbed.

It was an American director but a British Production! The Director was blacklisted in America for being a Communist, so worked in Britain. It's still a British Movie!

El cid,a brilliant film.....Give me anything where the guys dress up and maybe indulge in a bit of sword play,no pun intended for once...can be a uniform,or in tights....like Errol Flyn !wink!

Wonderful choice! Ive always thought connerys 70s/80s work was his best (although im not sure when "the hill" was made but thats in his best list)

I love that period of britain, so dowdy that it has character and the soundtrack was cool too. Shame Stallones remake had to fuck it up so bad
Next up has got to be Train Spotting, Danny Boyles seminal classic
