Marino,

Spot on mate...some Poles ruin it for the others- but then some British ruin it for the others.

We do owe the Poles a debt of honour- and the mad thing is that all these anti-immigration Tories don't realise that the Poles are more to the right of Thatcher! Natural allies turned away.

According to the news today it is looking ever more likely that the 3 party leaders are going to agree to a live television debate in the run up to next year's election - like the kind you get in America. We are getting more like America all the time, and this debate will be just like one of theirs. Does anyone remember the American rap group The Disposable Heroes Of Hip-hop-ricy? They did a very political song called 'Television'. It includes the lines "TV is an extension of the 2-party system, where image takes precidence over wisdon, and where the straightness of your mouth is more important than the words that come out of it." How true. This debate will be all that - it will basically be about style over substance.

Cameron and co are in Manchester for their annual party conference and according to the news tonight Europe is about to rear its head and become a divisive thing again. It ripped John Major's Government apart and caused problems when Hague was leader too. Funny how last week the Tories became favourites to win next year, then today, and no doubt for many days to come, we hear they are divided again over Europe.

i have 16 poles live next door... ... They a nice bunch-have no prob if they work and pay taxes and enter the uk legally...

While better that they are working than a burden on our Social Security system with around 2.5 million unemployed they are taking jobs from British workers.

Also in proposing to raise the retirement age Cameron & Co have overlooked the increase in those of working age so unemployment will be increased.

My biggest critisism of Blair / Brown and Labour in their term of office is almost totally abandoning our borders and allowing almost every tom dick and adbul in to the country.

When I walk down to my local high street nowadays I see many many people in their muslim headscarves, women in their burkhas, hear people on the phone talking polish or whatever.

10 years ago it was VERY rare to see this, now my high street is like a Iraq / East European street market.

I makes me want to cry to see how our country has been brought down to third world levels in such a short space of time.

I agree with that. I have lived in London all my life and it is very rare to have English-speaking neighbours in London now and you never hear English spoken on a bus anymore. There is nothing we can do either. The people in charge just do whatever they like - against the wishes of the people. This is why some people vote for the far-right, because they are the only people who care about this. I wouldn't ever vote for them though because of some of their other policies and views.

Sadly whoever gets in this will not now change even if the level of immigration is cut.

When I was at school (1970's) we were taught the UK population was about 55 million.
Now it is officially around 61.4 million.
True people are on average living longer but taking most people I know (family, friends, work colleagues etc ) there are more with no children or one child than with three or more.

Generally the birth rate among non-UK mothers is significantly higher and while I can't recall the detail now in a recent news item the percentage of children born by non-UK mothers in a London borough was a very high percentage.

Fortunately I do not live in a city but in my area the increase in those whose native language and culture is not British is very noticeable.

Cameron's missus is quite shaggable though, in an aristocratic, landed-gentry sort of way. !banana!

I saw a few bits of Cameron's speech today on the news. He is very well coached and clearly has teams of people behind him telling him which soundbite will work and what to play-up and what to play-down. It is all getting very American now here in UK politics.
