Why was destroying the unions a good thing? Do you get a kick out of workers having no representation at work and being exploited, typical tory. Lets not forget there was no minimum wage under the tories, people better not forget that.

their was no minimum wage brought in by Labour before thatcher.
Theirs nothing wrong with unions, what is wrong is the power they welded during the 70's that brought this country to its knees!
Labour have been a marvelous success since they came to power. This country is now in the gutter no more than a second rate european power.
Thatcher stood by her princples not main mps will do that nowadays.
Yes she made some stupid mistakes in her policy making but overall i feel she was not granted the credit she deserved.

>Margaret Thatcher???
>You have got to be fucking kidding?
Yes she was so bad she won 3 elections.
Have a look at the mess the UK was in BEFORE she came to power (see Winter Of Discontent under LABOUR)
The UK was the laughing stock of Europe before she came to power, she changed that to us being one of the most powerful nations in Europe.
People only remember the end, the poll tax riots and her crying as she left number 10.
They dont remember all the good things she did in the years before that. She dragged us out of the pit that labour had put us in and laid the foundation for the early years of Blairs period in office.
Of course Labour have managed to bankrupt the country again, but you have to expect that of Labour.

I can't believe more people aren't saying Churchill....it seems such a nobrainer when you contemplate the sheer scale of all the individual actions. Had he rolled out of bed on a different side on one of those days the shape of the world would be a very different landscape today.
Having said this I must admit guilt for being in the 25-30yrs bracket and yet still not really understand the Thatcher thing...I guess you had to be there?

Thatcher? A divsive figure, some loved but many despised . . . .
She was "lucky" in many respects:
Falklands War
North Sea Oil and gas wealth
Oil and gas allowing her to pick a fight with the miners
Labour opposition in disarray
Neil Kinnock failing in the commons when she expected to resign over the Westland affair
etc etc etc
She was around for so long and surrounded herself with so many "yes men" that she actually had the arrogance to believe that she held a monopoly on truth - a terrifying delusion in the hands of a politician.
