The weather, job prospects are some of the reasons quoted but the main one is cowardice.
60+ years ago almost everyone joined together to get rid of a potential menace to the quality of life in this country if most had the same mentally as they do now when Mr Hitler was knocking on our doors we would be *ucked.
I don't blame people for not having a go themselves but will never understand why people don't give those that can do something about it the information they need. (especially with the protection available if they do)
Better to run away and let the problem fester for others (often who don't have the escape option) than stand up and do the right thing.

Re: 200,000 people left the UK last year, why?
I moved away last year to Australia (possibly not for good, but probably) for several reasons because of the gridlock on the roads, fuck all to do, didn't like my house/village/area where I was living, people were starting to get mugged and cars were getting broken into all over the shop in my village (mine got done twice) and the police seemingly didn't give a fuck - my neighbour got attacked outside the pub and punched the young lad who instigated it and HE got done for assault, but the main factor was the sheer boredom over there
Now I live in a lovely flat in a brilliant suberb of Sydney got the beautiful Northern beaches of Sydney about 10K to the North of me, the City Centre 10K to the south. I am finacially better off here, weathers great, no hayfever, birds everywhere, nice restaurants and pubs

Re: Global Village
I'd be surprised if the UKs population has decreased even with 200,000
leaving for what ever reason
A lot of it is down to the vast chasm that is the worlds Skills Shortage
All countries are basically competing for the skilled in a high end game of poker
We've(South Australia) been pinching your bobbies/Police(in the hundreds)for the last couple of years because no one here wants to deal with the bottom end of society
