No, I think you caught the wrong meaning to what I said. I didn't mention anything about P2P specific firewalls, I was refering to your comment about the downside of XP with SP2, plus the settings to edit Port Ranges in various Firewalls to allow Port Access.

Buttsie, it,s not the windows firewall that stops fast downloads, you actually should have the windows firewall turned on when downloading with xp, just allow the programme through on the exceptions tab in firewall settings, service pack 11 is the real problem, it closes down the majority of ports on your pc, so in short any firewall will do, some are just better than others, in order to get round service pack 11, you need to set up port forwarding, shareaza will do this automatically when you install it, HOWEVER! it only covers a small amount of ports, you need to find your ip address and the port shareaza uses, 4360 is the norm, but firewalls are set to this level, so you need to go higher, I have my dedicated port for file sharing set at 46430, I go to my routers homepage and the virtual settings, then enter the ip address and port number I want to use for port forwarding, it sounds complicated but it,s easy really, then you are talking download speeds of 700-1500KBS instead of a paltry 3Kbs, but still always scan any files you download before playing/opening them.

Liz, I'm looking for a bit of advice mate.

I've been using uTorrent to download from the Torrent sites but as you mentioned before I mostly can only download at speeds up to a max of 30kbps.

I do manually configure my Firewall to block access to uTorrent when I am not using it and then set it to permit when I want to download but it's still slow.

uTorrent uses port 44132 if that's any help.

Any advice mate or would you suggest binning uTorrent and using Shareaza?

Any help would as always be appreciated.

Shareaza can handle all you downloads inc bit torrent, no problem, I will post some advice on setting up your server to get high speed downloads later tonight as I am off for a meal with Ms Liz, as I said it,s not about the firewall, you need to leave that on! just add shareaza as an exeption in the firewall settings. info to follow later.

Looks like my append has been changed by the BGAFD admin folks.

There was no stars there when I wrote my append.

I guess they dont like people mentioning "porn" torrent sites.
