Driving an SUV in the country is different from driving one around a crowded city. But how did people with kids cope before the SUV was invented?

You show an ignorance beyond belief! how is a Defender LR, a 'Status symbol' when you live on a farm and most of your journey to civilisation is by track and c roads?? you obviously live in a town or city Kieth.

Socialism, communism, totalitarianism.. what's the real difference?
People harp about CO2 & evil bastards in 4x4's, the greedy bastards maintaining the consumer boom by making it de rigeur to drive around in new "green" "recyclable" cars never talk much about the pollution caused by the manufacturer of the four-wheeled white goods every fucker has to be driving now do they?
Talking of which, does anybody know what the most environmentally friendly car to make is that is currently in production? It's the Jeep Wrangler! Ooops!
The politics of envy, remarkably distasteful.
I drive old cars - does this make me a polluting cunt or am I actually helping the world by utilising existing resources? I bike into town, shops and work, does this make me a tightarse or a hero? I couldn't give a fuck what the zombie's that govern and populate this prison of a country think, but I am concerned my right to choose how I live my life is being breeched and that it will be curtailed in the very near future, and yet I am an environmentally responsible aware guy. The real truth is it's all bluff and double standards on behalf on the state, the real polluters are the multi-nationals and other big companies, all of whom are lining the pockets of politicians throughout the world... don't be fooled (although I fear most people already have been..)

Don't fall for Red Ken's bullshit. The ?25 charge is not for 4x4's, it will hit many ordinary cars such as Mondeo estates. The bastard just wants your money. Given the shite state of the roads these days, allied to the proliferation of sodding speed bumps, I'm surprised more people don't drive 4x4's.
Red Ken hasn't changed one bit. He was a Communist bastard in the 80's and he still is. He takes the tube does he? He takes enough taxis as well, and who pays for them? Anyway, the fact the cunt doesn't drive a car doesn't make him a saint, he can't fucking drive, and he seems to resent anyone who can.
I must say it was funny (for me, because I don't pay the cunt's expenses) when he flew with his team of arse kissers to see his new best friend Chavez, only to find that Communist fucker was too busy to see him. How much CO2 did that trip produce, Ken, you two faced hypocritical Communist rat fucker?

Easy, it was called a Land Rover, I had one about thirty years ago, brilliant for poaching, carrying bricks, taking half a dozen drunken mates(Not myself) home from a do in the country, pulling daft pillocks in sports cars out of puddles..
Oh, and they weren't called S.U.V.s, that's a modern day acronym, American I do believe.

I said deforestation AND intensive agriculture. They go hand in hand.
Forests get cleared to make way for crops and to provide grazing land for livestock (as well as to provide lumber and to make way for roads). That means shitloads of trees get cut down (you hear reports about forested areas the size of Belgium or Wales being felled in the Amazon region every year. I suspect that's an exaggeration for dramatic impact, but it's still happening at a frightening rate).
Trees absorb CO2, so fewer trees means that less CO2 gets absorbed and instead remains in the atmosphere.
But deforestation & intensive agriculture also fucks up the environment in other ways. For example it leads to soil erosion in upland areas, and in dryer areas where rivers are diverted to provide irrigation for crops, lakes dry out (Lake Chad in Africa is a fraction of the size it was 30 years ago, ditto the Dead Sea and some of the large Central Asian lakes).
Like I said - it's not a few Chelsea Tractors we should be worrying about ....
