Sorry about the pedantry, but not so. The 24-min short Amblin' (1968 - he would later name his production company after it) is considered to be his first true piece after ealier try outs. He also directed tv work for Universal (Columbo etc) before the excellent Duel.

Razorback - Mutant pig on the rampage, in the outback.

Phantasm films - The Tall Man, the orbs and Reggie.

The Beguiled - Eastwood in the oddest western he ever made.
