If your forking out a Million an episode i think you can argue their aiming it at Eveyone because they realise the current crop of 30/40 year old Dr Who fanatical Nuts won't be around for ever

I agree making it a little darker would make it more interesting

The classic case IMHO was Buffy to Angel....from light hearted comedy send-up to full blown dark as hell

The playing it for laughs angle has been seen by many as a play for Buffy Fans(your kiddies?) left in the lurch.I can't see it personally-different genres
