The "real news" stories are often the most damaging though, because the majority of people are completely unaware why and how they happen. Many of the people we elect to represent us are just carrying the baton handed to them and are probably as unaware of this as the clowns they represent (however, this does excuse the blood on their hands).
I don't shed a tear for those in the latest disaster as I won't for the next one, wherever and whenever that might be, be reported or unreported (because to every one mass travesty there's at least three we will never hear about). I might just though shed a tear at the fact that all schools around here resemble prisons with stupid great security fences surrounding, and the fact one cannot stroll through such grounds during the summer, all because of a rabid over-reaction to one awful incident. I might just shed a tear at the fact we are logged by camera's, 1984-style, everywhere we go under the pretext of "stopping crime" and that people are begging for such intrusive measures to be installed outside their house "just in case". This is depressing, and not unreasonably so, yet would this make me "mentally ill" to dwell on such horror?
The One True reason people are topping themselves, be it quickly or the more widespread slow way, is the desperate lack of love in the world. All political and religious matters thrive on hate, and it is this that is constantly rammed down our throats (er, sorry, "reported news of concern"). Corny though it may be, but love is what people need to thrive and there just isn't enough of it anymore, all that is ever highlighted is the disasters, the terrorism, the accidents etc. We bring our children up to be suspicious of everyone, everyone except those that are committing the real social crimes. Kids, don't even talk or look at anyone you don't already know, but hey, eat this nutitionally deficient meal and go wash yourself with some poisonous chemicals.... Ludicrous. Everything revolves around mass profit for huge multi-national companies, this is the real agenda, and if society turns into a loveless hell, then so be it..... as long as we "look after ourselves" by Not Trusting Others.
