Don't lets fool ourselves about the Russians' actions. I don't think Putin gives a toss about how many kids or adults were killed except how it reflects on his leadership. Look where he came from, a KGB apparatchik in the old Soviet system.
Yes Bimmercat, I didn't lose any sleep over the demise of the corrupt system known as the Soviet Union. I'm just saddened that it's been succeeded by a system that in some respects is just as bad, and for many ordinary people, far worse.

Maybe but thats just Media Propaganda talk in my book
While the targetting of children is abhorent its not any worse than targetting adults-its all bad IMHO-but it might just have the effect of stopping some of the brutal crimes going on in chechnya
The reality is Chechnya and Russia are at War and have been for years
To call it Terrorism is just Political opportunism
The bottom line is 2 Distinct Cultures don't seem to be able to live in the same society. Its a Worldwide phenomenon
You can just about pick any of these countries and you will find some history of tension between different cultures/nationalities...Spain is the obvious one
but many of the newly liberated Russian states are mines waiting to explode
So the sooner Chechnya & Russia are seperated the better for everyone
cheers

This begs the uncomfortable question: 'why are these 'disaffected' only to be found in a religion that, at least tacitly or implicitly, condones the use of force?
Bite the bullet- either prominent Muslims sort out their own co-religionists (as has the Big Man, apparently, in Iraq, with The Boy Al-Saddo), or many of them, as usual wholly innocent, will also die in the resulting carnage. The silence from BritMuslims (and positive action from our Dear Home Secretary, God Love Him 'cause no-one else will, apart from the faithless tart he's apparently, faithelssly, fucking- what a role-model for our youth) is absolutely deafening...........
That's not a threat, merely an observation, borne out of a (now rather desperately tired) knowledge of Human Nature,

They wouldn't listen anyway
Infact they'd probably target those Muslims or see them as Puppets of the West?
Fanatics never do
As one prominent Australian Muslim said yesterday about the Chechnyan debacle
If they were Muslims they are already going to hell(its already on their heads)

I'm instinctively with M on this one, but Crofter's (speaking for most of us?) post expresses eloquently the confusion that is felt by many in the West, but asks too many questions, at least for me: I can only comment as a Lunnuner who has friends/acquaintances of most faiths..
We welcome Muslims to our country, and this is how they repay us? Vipers in the bosom?
Too simple.
These people are NOT Muslims.
They are perverts.
Their real desire is to 'die gloriously', as the "Sacred Text" has it: the same sort of religious bullshit that was promulgated by the Roman Church until the late 18th C. ANY reading, as we all know, of any old religious text, can be used to justify ANY atrocity- the OT allows Samuel to sell his daughters into prostitution/slavery, but regards him as a 'righteous man', IIRC.....a price to enter Heaven, but not paid by him, the Ultimate Sacrifice......pass the sick-bucket.......
There are men more or less my age (but with much more money, aka power, but no moral compass whatsoever- a cardinal characteristic of the psychopath, IIRC....) with a more complex, 'mature' (usually SO immaturely profit-driven) agenda, who are manipulating these disaffected, tragic people into these acts of barbarism (using that tired old cliche about reward in Heaven, something we in the West were wise enough to see decades ago as a device to keep the poor, poor, and the rich, rich- 'each to His Own', as it was with the Victorians......no, sorry: it was their [eventually and self-destructive] foolish permission for education for the masses- wisdom can only come with ther possession of all or most of the facts- again, now, these facts are being hidden by 'presidential-style' giovernement).
I remember Daniel Cohn-Bendit's ultimately fruitless riots- another lovely case of manipulation by 'dark forces'......although I feel/still feel the cause worthy.....I could go at length (as I usually do), only I'm too pissed and now just wanna be silly.

No, of course- if I implied that in the heat of composition, apologies.

Of course. I waa merely quoting an example, and I do believe my btirade was against terrorism per se, rather than the 'defence' of any particular creed.

No it isn't: personal responsibility- I suggest you acquaint/reacquaint yourself with the Koran, or even the Bible, both of which (unsurprisingly, considering they probably come from the same source-material, share the same view that we are REQUIRED, as part of God's Gift of Life, to take charge of our lives and lookmout for others- just exactly what do you suppose that means? To me, the meaning is fairly obvious.......

Yes- you might have been able to stop him/her, or so order your society as to preclude such barbarity- I do not exclude the west from that criticism, as you well know: in fact, in our converastions, I'm usually harder on us then 'them' on this point.
By that token you would say its also every protestant

Obviously.

It usually is- but I'm not responsible for the fairies and Xmas lghts the murderers, or the governments that sanction them, choose to dress their crimes up in- I'm solely concerned that the crimes they commit should be stopped and the criminals punished.
