Well Chris you've proved my point for being misinformed as you are wrong on many counts.
Chris: Yet membership requires approval by a committee, once you've proved your status (is this not a hierarchy) ?
Terry: The reason why we ask members for approval is to vouch for the legitimacy of a producer. There are clear cut rules for membership and I think the most obvious one allows you in: That you have produced something within the last 12 months that is either a dvd on the market or a valid website. We've even allowed for junior members who havent brought anything out and who maybe in the process of doing a website. I dont really see anyone as a producer who has a few bob in his pocket filming a girl at home with the intention of keeping the footage to himself for his own private use. I think we have been relaxed in the past by having honorary members at our discretin like Joe A who has been more than helpful with advice with website concerns and Marcus Allen wh has seen this industry evolve since the 60's and 70's I believe.
Chris: So why is it tagged as UKAP Awards and not Red Zone Awards ?
Terry: No idea. As stated, Phil Black of Redzone is a member of UKAP and it was an idea we all agreed to, though some like myself did not think it was the right time to tackle this event. Phil took it by the horns and made it his project and for all intents and purposes I feel he did a good job at getting such a mammoth task off the ground. UKAP had nothing to do with it other than it being an idea to begin with. UKAP as a whole does not have any say in it because it is a Redzone venture as far as i see.
Chris: (with regards to non members products being nominated last year)What about this year ?
Terry: Same answer applies to this year as well. I mean, ITV are not members but some how Billie Pipers Secret Diary Of A Call Girl is nominated for best softcore. Personally I dont even deem the show as remotely softcore but again UKAP had no say in this as it is not a UKAP organised event.
I'm not sure what you mean by having a spy in the camp where the BBFC meeting was concerned. Please explain.
Chris: Closed forums and blackballing policy do not promote unity.
Terry: Nor does having an open one Chris. Since day one UKAP have been open to criticism by closing ranks on its personal affairs. This had to be a members only thing as anything discussed in the open was always hijacked by hecklers and trolls. Just look at the BGAFD, and you cannot even stay on track without someone spinning off on a totally different tangent trivialisng your inital point.
If anything by having a closed password protected forum has promoted unity among members who feel we should be able to discuss matters that affect producers that do not concern fans or consumers. I've been involved with UKAP since its inception and do not recollect any black balling going on. Is there something you know that I dont with regards to this perhaps?
Chris: Trouble is UKAP is run a bit like a Soho clip joint, until you've handed over you ?200, proved your worth, and been accepted by the committee, you have no idea what lurks behind the plastic curtain.
Terry: Again, totally untrue. Potential new members can come to the first meeting for free. Really there is nothing sinister or anyhting to hide at the meetings. Though we expect people to respect discretion that somethings discussed should not be made public. Producers are privy to some sensituive information that if it got out can stir up an unnecessary hornets nest. The association is not about blackballing but what we can do to help or prevent smething from spiralling out of control.
I'm not too keen on your likening our subscription to a Soho clip joint , thats suggesting theft Chris. If this was the case I'm sure the 20+ members we have so far would have voiced this concern but seeing you are not a member this is the kind of attack why UKAP does not feel it has to answer to questions like this and further adds credibility to why we have a password protected forum.
Furthermore, members know what the annual subs is for before they've even paid it. A clip joint promises you everything, takes your cash up front and scarpers never to be seen again.
Oh and there is no plastic curtains where any of us are concerned.
Chris:I have major issues with the above statement especially regarding "the health of its resources" I won't lie I find Realpuntings connection incredible for an industry organisation to be fronted by a site that gives direct links and reviews on how Joe Public can fuck the talent sits very heavily on my heart.
Terry: You are very much entitled to your misgivings Chris, but i will defend Jay and Real Punting because we (STM Distribution) will zealously defend anyone we distribute with for the simple fact that Jay not only uses condoms for this series but relies on the sincerity of a girls profession by how you can get in touch with her for her services. Why would you take umbrage to an escort but not a girl who works in the industry who is tested? If Jay was promoting unprotected sex and had an uncouth manner with the girls I'm sure various members would let him know. Even more so Jay has been very supportive of this industry in more ways than i can mention and I see him as a long term fixture in the future of the adult industry.
Chris: Alter the structure and you'd be suprised how many might just do that.
Terry: As I stated earlier this is a roundtable association. Not a hierarchy. There is nothing to adjust. If you are a producer Chris, feel free to come along to a meeting next February. That is assuming you are still producing. If not I dont see the point of you coming as the issues we raise wil not benefit you in any way.
Chris:True if they represent the industry across the board, and openess and integrity is both recognised by producers and end product consumers alike.
Terry: Okay Chris one thing at a time. Rome werent built in a day !happy!

Terry : Point of interest there for me. I was thrown out of the UKAP 'club' because I was told 'I wasn't a proper producer' yet I have been producing movies (and stills) probably more than anyone over my 25 years for various companies including the biggest companies in the world (Euro & American). Marcus has actually been involved for exactly the same amount of time as me but was I ever considered in the same vein - no.

Well. Well. Well.
Things have changed this week for me, and due to politics I will be at the awards..
But I must thank all the the fans and profs from here for all your kind words. I am touched by your kindness. And will always do my best to help out anyone I can whether fan or fellow professionals. I have this year celebrated 20 years in this industry and have some amazing highs and some very worrying lows. And have shared a lot of it with the gang from the BGAFD so you have a idea of what goes on.
As for UKAP I have been a founder member, and I do not see it has done much harm, and mostly tried to help each other. However there is always room for improvement and a shake up can be a good thing.
As for the fee of ?200-00 I don't think it is too expensive. It just means there is a bit of cash in the kitty.
Mr Cornish Chris.
There really isn't much cloak and dagger stuff going on, I think it would be good for you to come a long even as an observer, maybe you could advise on improving the UKAP meetings. Then take it or leave it from there.
And unlike a Soho clip joint there is real alcohol to drink if you wish.
Dave I did not realise members from UKAP did not want you there, perhaps we can have a chat to resolve this issue. I for one would vouch for you, as you were one of the main men on my first ever big budget award winning movie, and as you've banged Sarah Young I think that deserves a valid reason for you to be a member. Plus you are a bloody decent cove.
As for having a locked off forum, it is not so sacred you will die if you read what is on it, it just sometimes saves making thirty or so phone calls to every producer for a bit of information.
As for the awards, which I was not going to attend, I had a visit from several members of the industry that basically put me in my place and reminded me that you can not change and improve things by ignoring them and sitting on the side lines. Due to points raised on this forum and our secret UKAP society of freaks and wierdos there will be a shake up and improvement in further years to come, So I have been told to turn up shut up and have a good night out instead. Which really is good advice, even this stubborn ignorant little fuck accepts that I can not help the industry if I don't roll up my sleeves and muck in. lesson learned and point taken.
Now I must do some work.
regards, Marino

Dave. as stated earlier in this thread: Im sure you have more than paid your dues in blood, sweat, tears and persecution. Hell you've been in this business since I was a teenager (and that was a long time ago) but I've always seen you as a a hired gun. I once asked if you owned any of this material you produced and you said no which means you would be outside the criteria of a producer in that you do not distribute, finance or own your material.
No offence Dave, no matter how many years you have been in this business will change that, however, I do respect you as a veteran and see no reason why you cannot attend the meetings but I suspect you wouldnt be really interested especially now you are with Blue Bird. If Paul wants to sign up then he is more than welcome and maybe put you in as a rep for them then that works. If you feel you have something to offer in terms of support I dont see any reason why you shouldnt join.

Exactly what I was saying, who is to say who is or not a "Producer". The way things are you could be producing one minute and then sacked the next. From the start of UKAP I campaigned to be more open, but I was thwarted by vested interests.
I think much of the policy making was based on what suited certain producers at that moment in time, so hardly a long term plan!
I think UKAP could work well if it acted for the benefit of ALL producers large and small.

I think it does already Jim. Look at the membership and it reflects the various levels of the industry as it is.
Oh and a special shout out to Cornish Chris with regards to non members being nominated. I've just heard from Jason Maskell that Harmony have been nominated for quite a few categories and they are not members of UKAP at all.
Next?!
