Retailers

I know a guy who runs an adult shop and he made me an offer on some stock he wanted to shift. He told me he would let me have it at cost price, which was about eight times less than he was retailing DVDs at.
So there appears to be money in porn if you're a retailer. Same old story!

Only if you take your earnings in Adultwork credits. Hardly any girls will do that. They just get paid by the punter on the spot in the normal way.
What Adultwork make their money on is the charges for the private galleries and things like that.

Traffic doesn't equal money.
My latest site, which is only a month old, doesn't even show on Alexa, but already it makes enough money to be worthwhile.
If I ran my TGP's off the same domain name and bought a daily listing on The Hun I'd have the same traffic overnight as Lady Sonia, but I wouldn't be making much more money.

I have no vested interest in the Alexa site. I simply mentioned it as a point of reference. As far as its validity goes... it's as questionable as most things on the internet. You should always research information further than the first place you find it.
Like most things on the web, there are always methods to fraudulently manipulate the results if you are a cheater, and perhaps force a better postion than is deserved or is accurate.
If you have a site online that has not been manipulated in any way, and you are listed in a nice position on Alexa, it is probably an indication that the site is popular in some way. I have had sites that did not rank at all, and then over time, with some marketing and exposure, have eventually appeared, and with more marketing and attention, have moved up. I don't know how to manipulate the results, so I accept the overall results as credible to some extent, but I take it all with a grain of salt as well, as I am a realist.
I stated upfront (in the very first sentence of my initial posting on this topic) that this site does not necessarily indicate which sites do or don't make money - it simply does its best to give a visitor/popularity ranking. With regards to TGP pages for example - logically their rankings will be inherently higher, just by their nature. Of course this has no bearing on profits, as TGPs are generally free. If you were to sell advertising space on your TGP however, an Alexa rating (good or bad) may have a bearing on your ability to do so.
In a nutshell there are two different viewpoints. If you do an Alexa search on your own site and it shows a nice ranking without manipulation, then you are happy to reference the site and use it as a tool. If on the other hand, you do a search for your site and it is not popular enough to rank, or it ranks very low, then the "sour grapes" viewpoint comes into play, and the Alexa site is a worthless tool, not worth its salt on the web.
Again, decide for yourselves. I don't own or run the site, but its ratings are credible to some extent. This applies to search engine results as well, which are also subject to manipulation - but we all want our sites to show as number one just the same. Think about it.

I would normally double check the facts through Google as you suggest, but according to this Yahoo search result, it appears that it is very easy to manipulate Google results...
I'm afraid I must now question the credibility of all things I read from now on, as it appears we are all just pawns in a one great big computer game.
To steal a line from an old Star Trek show...
"Everything I say is a lie."
Of course I'm just kidding with you, so hopefully you do not take offense.
Perhaps after a few more pints I will care enough to continue with this, but as this discussion does not yield any of us any profit whatsoever, it is hard to keep interest...
