I don't think we should be name dropping here for fear I leave out someones name and get my arse kicked or worse still dolby stereo of the ear ole by some angered model. I am a producer after all and such a position is like being a father who should not favour one child over another so to speak, so I'll be diplomatic and say we do have potential talent and potential stars but the potential talent is the group that needs to align its thinking and attitude to want to become that appellation known as "star" but for this to happen a lot of things have to change about the industry as a whole to facilitate this. The wheels may turn slow in terms of progress but they are turning. Going to America isn't an automatic transition to nobody to somebody but the good thing out there is that due to the fierce competition, most girls and boys pick up what is required to be better in their performance real quick. Maybe the standard of male/ female talent, nice weather, nice houses and swimming pools have something to do with it also. Nonetheless an adjustment in thinking is in order like I said.

For example,, a girl who comes to me who knows fuck all about porn, thinks people are sad for watching it, doesnt want to watch herself wants to go to america to work because they pay better money but doesnt know whats expected of her. I'll stick on a scene and she'll complain " I aint doing that". I always say to them "Heh-heh...You aint doing that....Yet" Six months later they'll come back bragging about doing everything under the sun and demanding ?800 a scene but then looking every bit the typical porn star from L.A, boob jobs, giant hairdo, collagen. This is not the thinking I am alluding to. This surface quality makes them just another clone, lost in a sea of other porn clones. Fair dues though, most girls have turned out all the better for it too...and don't get me started on the boob job thing!

I think what we are talking about is a differing opinion about tastes.

US produced stuff is generally better quality, but personally I do not like it. I think because part of the reason for watching a porn film is you know the plot is going to be shit, in the UK we accept this and play with the comical aspects of it . In the US they somehow think that if they glam it up a bit, it will look more plausable.

Of my favourite Brit girls that have done well in the US, Ashley Long, Angel Long and Hannah Harper. I have found most of their US productions not at much fun as their UK ones. I have got one Barely Legal DVD that features Ashley Long that the girl doing the voice over has a American accent and Ashley in the film has her normal accent, to me this is complete bollocks.

In my opinion you can't beat a bit of Ben Dover or Relish!

In the world of porno it's irrelevant whether a plot is plausible or not - a plot is usually there to put the sex into some kind of context. Of course it's not strictly necessary for a porno to have a plot (if it's genuine amateur, then it's OK). But when I am presented with a supposedly professional porno production with no plot I tend feel affronted that they have not bothered to make the effort. I feel that those making the production are probably to stupid to conceive of anything so sophisticated and esoteric as a plot, or are to mean and penny pinching to spend the extra time and money on it. As a viewer I feel like I am being treated with contempt if the producers don't furnish me with a plot, or at least set the scene. I feel like they must be thinking that I must be some stupid, pervy, hormonally crazed, chavy sort, who will be sent into a sexual frenzy at the merest sight of a scraggy naked biffer (with crap hair and no makeup on, most likely) and that being the case, it would be pearls before swine including a plot. This is not some idea that has spontaneously coalesced in my mind - these are real attitudes that I have encountered amongst my porn producer pals and colleagues.

There are a couple of reasons for the comedy aspect of British porno. One is the general unsophisticated naffness of British popular culture (as opposed to on the continent where they still value sophistication, class and style). Another reason is that using comedy is a very easy way of disguising the fact that your film is cheap and unsophisticated (hey, I?ve used this device a few times myself) and more crucially, that you might not be capable of anything more artistically adventurous, even if unlimited resources were placed at you disposal. It?s indicative of the poverty of expectation on behalf of British punters and a poverty of ambition on the side of the producers.
