I'd hazard the guess, then, that your history makes you somewhat of an exception- although I know some trained professionals get into porn through being unable to get enough regular work in mainstream- you can usually tell their work by all that moody lighting ;-o
Trainee, or amateur, plumber, I wouldn't fancy either to fix my toilet.
I can appreciate the models' need for a certain selectivity, but can't see why the model agencies get so sniffy about 'amateurs'- as long as the can present bona fides perhaps along the lines suggested by rgb above, there oughtn't to be a problem.

Don't think they do, I have girls living with me all the time and they all work with amateurs recomended by the two agencys mentioned many times on the forums. I even have amateurs using my house to shoot in if they are stuck for a location or the wife is refusing to sit in the coal cellar for a night,

Hi Guys

We don't pretend to be so called 'professional' but we believe our films are as good as any out there, we don't have problems with models as we usually get people of professional & amateur status contact us & we treat them all the same as none are any better.
Sandie Cain & Rona were the models who last made films for us so we try keep our standards high but it depends on our pennies, where in the publics eyes does an amateur production company become professional one ? by the amount of films it churns out ? who stars in them ? advertising ? who really knows.
JJ is right when he says its a closed shop because we know 6-10 amateur people like us that can turn out films as good as the 'professionals' weve pointed them in Rude Britannia's way for Spencer to look at.
Next year were trying to organise the British Amateurs in this country, this will start with meetings to see ways of getting our work out there to the public. Most ideas by the 'pros' are stale now so they will have to adapt with us 'amateurs' or be left behind, because were not as well funded as the 'pros' we have to use our imaginations more to get people to notice us.
I don't wish to sound rude but a film maker is a film maker & it depends on what contacts you have at the end of the day, instead of having a class war among ourselves we need to pull together.
We all know amateur is the best selling type of film sold at the moment, be it a gonzo type or a couples own home-made movie so its horses for courses & the only edge the 'professionals' have is that their films are in the shops now but how about next month, next year when weve had a chance.
One of the comments was right we did start out filming as fun, we made our pub film & would have faded into the distance but greedy 'professionals' pirated it making themselves a lot of money so we promised ourselves we'd make more & get to 'pro' status but our heart still remains with the amateur circle. Weve made friends with pro & am people
& our next couple of years should see us earning serious money which will enable us to make lots more films but even so i would not be vain enough to say i'm 'professional' even though i've been around a lot longer than some of these new comers.

"but can't see why the model agencies get so sniffy about 'amateurs'- as long as the can present bona fides"

As you say, there shouldn't be a problem with anyone booking from an agency, providing they have a professional attitude and some way of proving they're bona fide, but I know from talking with a couple of agents over the last year, they've just abondoned the amateur market, as they're fed up talking calls from time-for-prints fools, wanting to shoot girls for free.

I will need to ring Private, Wicked, Hustler, Digital Pleasure and tell them they have it all wrong they should stop making movies and start making home videos. Be real again ask if you want to know something don't assume it right cause it sounds good. The reason amateur is popular to produce is its cheap and anyone with a digital camera and a girlfriend is a producer. Convincing the guys who market the material is a bit harder the need a bit more than my stuff is as good as anyone elses.
I try to make mine to suit the punter and so far I have got it right other wise Fuck Truck would not been a success. If volume 1 was as good as anyone elses we would not be at Volume god nows now.

You are at the start of your film making career I was 20 odd years ago when I worked with some of the great film producers all I did was learn from them by asking loads of questions and watching what they done. I never told Moser my stuff was better than his because it wasn't.

A couple of years ago a company we worked with had a similar opinion to yours they went further and used all our ideas, I even helped them at the start by shooting some stuff and producing a movie for them. They went on to copy most of the stuff we were doing because they thought it was easy they invested loads of money and shot quite a few movies the took stands at sex festivals, they talked a good game. Then the day came when they realised this aint so easy because the public did not want their stuff and went bust, last I heard they went back to pirating coz its easier.
