In the UK there is a law/regulation which does protect the performer whether they are an employee or a sub contractor. Its is called the Health and Safety Act and it does apply to shooting porn. Where ever someone is paid or earns a fee is a place of work.

The employer has to make a risk assessment and must take steps to protect those working in that environment. The risk is HIV and protect clothing should be supplied to prevent infection!!

Sounds simple but in practice not so easy.

As a producer who is primarily working in the USA we have adopted a policy of working with a small group of individuals who are regularly tested and partake in a lifestyle that avoids risks of infection with STDs and HIV this is far from perfect but a whole lot safer than working with performers whose lifestyle is based on unprotected sex with any John Doe straight off the street.

Are you digging for an argument cause you wont get one dude.

If the majority of fellow producers all start using rubbers then I am happy to follow suit.

calm reasoned common sense should be the order of the day here, no 'knee jerk' reactions, we are not journalists trying to get column inches in the Daily Mail, we are pornographers trying to make our quiet unassuming way in the world.

lets all wait until the jury is in before we jump the proverbial gun.

In the US the work available is different from the UK - a good salary can be made from the films and the dancing circuit - the population is huge so the demand is huge. In the UK we dont have that chance - the population of scotland would fit in Manhattan - that is the population ratio - so we are different and have to understand this.

The whoha over this aids scare is indeed scary also the attitude to condoms is also a worry. I read a post on here and it shocked me to the core that such attitudes are rife in the industry. No wonder we are sitting here shit scared about one performer - God help us ! a small community wondering just who this person is and then if and when it is released we will be trying to work out who did what to who and the dates and all that so no matter who it is we all have to take stock.

Condoms - A big must - we all owe this to each other and to the industry - we need to take stock of this and understand. In other industries we take precautions we wouldnt tolerate unsafe practices ? Go on a boat without lifeboats and flotation devices ? Drive a car without seatbelts and airbags - we have the technology and devices availiable to limit exposure to dangerous situations. Likewise the world is full of risk assesments - risk = likely hood balanced against harm. Low likelyhood against grave harm still gives a significantly high risk for it not to be done unless precautions are in place. are you going to have intercourse and expose yourself to aids ? if you do not like the film then you need to reassess your views on this. If not then we will only work towards killing off the industry. Actors and actresses will not put up with the requirement to work unprotected.

Wonder if anyone noticed the rise in internet traffic to the AITA site - also the original leak was from a porn star visiting from the US to the UK making a remark that they would not shoot due to a case of HIV.....

Smacks of a lot of concerns this does.

no offence William, I respect what you're saying about condoms being a precautionary measure against HIV, but visually they look awful, which is why speaking personally, I have no intention of paying for any porn which has condoms in it :-(

It's not that I want to disrespect the health and lives of actors involved, it's a personal opinion of what I find visually as sexually appealing and therefore what I would be willing to spend my money on.

If UK boy/girl porn became condom-only, then that would restrict my personal spending to either US/EU content or girl/girl only.

I'm not saying this as a "you can't take such measures!" because I'm just punter, and therefore have no place to dictate what the industry needs to do, but I am merely explaining that as a paying customer of UK porn, it's likely that I would take my money completely away from any UK boy/girl content as I would only be willing to pay for girl/girl, and I'd end up buying content from foreign producers if I wanted boy/girl content

I don't know how many other customers would feel like me here, but if it's a lot, then the boy/girl industry may end up losing a lot of income due to the unfortunate fact that condoms look dreadful on-screen and there's not a lot anyone can do to change that

Each to their own -

But the hard fact is that condoms need to become more accepted. Yes there will be a few who think that it is not the same and that is up to them. Thing is that we need to be sure that we properly protect those that engage in sex with multiple partners for pornography - even for the safety of those that are in relationships. Were all adults in this and we all have choices to make. I know Id rather be safe and lose a few pounds than to take all that I could get money wise and get exposed to the HIV virus.

For those that cant stand condoms then Im sure that there would be couples that would specialise in condom-less porn they were involved with each other in a monogamous relationship with each other.
