Brit Porns Dying
Re: Brit Porns Dying
Even though you don't get it Dibble that's the whole point I was making. See thread below.
Re: Brit Porns Dying
I've noticed frustrations here and there in this site about getting product. Some constructive criticism - why not create a place at bgafd where fans can post their experiences good or bad with buying and those who sell it? To me this is more important than the producing of it, because if it's too much of a hassle to get it what's the point for anybody? The better the distribution the more people will feel they can just order something when they want, get delivered in a timely fashion with what they expected to get for the money. Packaging should always match with as much as possible what the fan is going to eventually see on his TV screen. Deep Throat was distributed mainstream style in chains of movie theatres to start, and as everyone knows since then it's been through video distribution and now updated into DVD, not really missing a beat. Who can't get a copy of this anywhere in the known world playable on in most formats? My whole point. Theatres are gone, but there is the web, mail order, and porn star appearances at stores, etc. It's not much different than the music biz or any other media. In the US there are various states and areas where certain types of distribution or product is not allowed, so there's always a workaround to get something to the consumer. Everybody wants it. It's all about marketing.

"yeah but the point I was making Dibble was no matter how much worse its got it's still a damn site better than most other jobs."
Agreed.
"ok maybe the birds arnt as tasty either"
Agreed.
"pay most blokes a hundred quid they will happily stuff some boxes for you, pay them a penny and theyll stuff even the roughest looking half decent sort you care to throw in front of them. In fact theyd probably pay for you for the privilage. As I said I'd quite happily do it for free,"
Wrong! There are it seems only about half a dozen guys in the country who are capable of stuffing any bird on camera. And hey, if you're so confident and capable why haven?t you applied to Ben Dover for a job? He doesn?t expect you to do it for free, he's paying wages and he's always advertising for suitable guys on here. So if you can do it, and you want to do it, then, er, why aren?t you doing it?
"Do we really have to here so much moaning?"
Well, at least it makes interesting reading. At least 'the moaners' have actually got something to say, which sadly can't be said of those who regularly post banalities.
"Maybe the real thing holding back the British industry is all this whinging, negativity and lack of self belief."
I don't agree. As far as I can see there are three things holding the industry back Culture, Familiarity and Economics.
Culture: Though the fact of porn is now almost accepted in British society it has shed any vestiges of glamour that it once had - you don?t see gorgeous immaculacy groomed women driving Mercedes Sports cars in porn films anymore. You?ll more likely see ill-educated single mum types from council estates out to top their benefits up. They usually look like they?ve never been near a make-up counter never mind know how to put it on. How glamorous are they? How warm and positive do they make you feel? In the past our detractors used to sneer that we were exploiting the girls in porn movies, because the girls didn?t have any other options for earning a crust. Now, it?s beginning to look like they may have a point. Real negativity is creeping in.
But it?s far more then that, the wider culture has changed and girls in general are not taking their appearance as seriously as girls did 15 years ago. They're not bothered about looking glamorous, feminine and attractive to men. They?d much rather be out, being loud and acting lairy with their ?mates? while wearing jeans and sporting bland ?Tasmin Outhwaite' hair styles. It?s as much, if not more, about their attitude than their appearance. This is absolutely no good at all for erotic filmmakers and photographers. So even if producers adopted a positive attitude, as you suggest, there is a huge problem that dwarfs all others - there just isn?t the raw material (girls that are universally attractive and appealing to men) available to make decent erotic movies. This is a cultural problem. One that can barley be surmounted how ever much dosh you?ve got to spread about. There?s also a generally pervading sense ? spread by the politically correct media - that porn, glamour girls and adult entertainment are not ?cool? anymore. That instead we should be concentrating on the ?empowerment of wimmin? and girls should be looking towards ?wimmin with attitude? as there role models... That?s all very well but again that?s no good for publishers of erotic material as the customers (men) don?t want to see ?wimmin with attitude? they want to see girls with big tits, bums, decent hair, coy smiles, rouge lips and doe eyes.
Familiarity: Once mainstream buyers have seen one crap porn film they?re not to keen to see anymore. They can take it or leave it, and they're leaving it.
Economics: As more folks get sick of crap porn films they obviously buy less. This leaves producers little in the pot to hire anything but crap personal, and use low production values. There's frequently not enough in the pot to make anything at all.
?Im sick to death of it..Someone lend me a camera and a few quid and ill go out and do it meself?
You can?t do anything that isn?t being done already.
?ENJOYMENT!?
Well, it was enjoyable when the girls were gorgeous and the dough was plentiful, we did enjoy it. But you'll be pleased to hear that there are one or two out there now who do enjoy the current scene and would probably do it for free if they didn?t have a few bills to pay. But their enthusiasm alone won?t pull porn out of the doldrums. Indeed it could make it worse.

Re: Brit Porns Dying
Dibble you have obviously got a modicom of inteligence so why are you so confrontational? You put up an argument against anything that contradicts the demise of British porn. Why do you have to be so blinkered?
You have obviously got an interest in British adult films so why do you argue for their demise?
Why don't you use your knowledge to try and help the industry? Or if you can't do that then don't waste your time arguing with people who are definately for the survival of the industry.
If you win all you arguments then....we all loose.

Re: Brit Porns Dying
"Everybody wants it."
Sadly, this is not the case. Everybody doesn?t want it anymore. "Everybody" wanted it in 1985 when they bought their first video recorder. Now they've seen it, bought the T-Shirt and gone home sorted. And that's that.
"It's all about marketing."
Well, there could be something in this. Although there are now huge cultural problems to having a vibrant British erotic film and photography industry if you could somehow make porn fashionable cool and trendy with the young, then you would be into serious revenue generating territory. You'd have to get Will & Gareth to come out and admit that they dig watching shag videos whenever they're not in the studio recording crap songs or get Ms Dynamite to admit she loved sucking dick on the Parky show. The knockout punch might be a hitherto undiscovered 'Posh 'n' Becks' shag video similar to the 'Pam & Tommy' one.

"You can?t do anything that isn?t being done already"
thats exactley the defeast attitude Im talking about dibble, wheres the scope for a little creativity?, trying new things?,experimenting? Thats whats gonna spice the market up. You lot seem to have given up, just trotting out the same old stuff time and time again. No wonder the movies have become so boring if that sort of sentiment is common place amongs porns top brass!
I do find it hard to believe that theres only a dozen blokes in a country of 60 million odd who are willing and ABLE to perform given the chance! I more suspect the real truth is a few have got the market sewn up. Most people wouldnt know where to get the models from, so unless you've got a very willing girlfreind or a group of enthusiastic exhibitionist nymphomaniacs on hand you're pretty much stuffed! It doesn't help were a nation of drinkers, all beer bellies and brewers droop, so undeerstandably us blokes are probably a little camera shy too.
As for doing it myself Dibble, well if I had the money I glady would trust me! No disrespect to Mr Dover though, but I think hes had his day really (i seem to remember him announcing his impending retirement not so long ago anyway?) so if I did want to go hound anyone for a job I'd rather go to Terry Stephens, who in my opinion is producing some top notch stuff at the moment. That said I think the future for British porn is better served if enthusiasts go it alone and do it themselves..bring back some enthusiasm, some variety and some enjoyment to the whole business!

Oh Officer Dibble, what delightful euphemisms you employ ('capable of stuffing any bird') (sic) If only I had such a insightful use of words I could give up the shelf stacking and spend time thinking of a few choice words for you.

Re: Brit Porns Dying
I'm certainly not arguing for the demise of the industry - I leave that to Ann Widdecome, Jack Straw, Claire Short and the like. I'm trying to get you to open your eyes to the state the industry is in and point out the many complex reasons why this is. If you cannot see a problem and cannot admit there is one then you cannot take the first step in dealing with the problem.
I know my analysis may sound apocalyptic for porn but I just cannot see how it can be made more popular than it already is today. The people who want it have got it and that's that - as I keep telling my producer pals who need to clutch at straws. For them there's little prospect of things getting better. Unless there's a sudden huge cultural shift there's not going to be a huge demand for their services in future. What demand there is will easily and cheaply be net by no-taste knob heads with automatic camcorders.
I just want interested parties to acknowledge these facts and discus them.
