I was not suggesting either German or British girls were unappealing. I was merely suggesting that some of the actresses that have celebrity status, i.e. they are rather better known than is usual for European porn actresses, are perhaps not the most attractive. There are very many very attractive actresses in hardcore, British, German and other nationalities.

You are to be congratulated Fritz on raising a subject which has stimulated an healthy debate. Nevertheless you do seem to be trying to distort what has been said. Several people have merely pointed out that British girls have had considerable success both in Europe and the USA. No one has suggested that they are superior to German or Eastern European girls. In my opinion, with the odd exception, the European industry does not want a cult of personality amongst actresses. Therefore few will ever be celebrities.

You are right, in the US there is a quite different basic way of thinking about personality and build a cult around single personalities. I think it has to do with the US-History, the struggle of Pioneers against the Wilderness etc. There is just no socialism.

I didnt know David that the theme was already discussed earlier; but the positive effect of this is that we have the newest up-to-date of Brit Grils`Foreign Carreers now.
It seems important for me that no British adult actress takes her Nationality as part of her image, posing with the Union Jack, driving with London?s red buses or so like the Spice Girls did.

Some American actresses did so, remember Linda Lovelace in "Linda for President". A Sarah Young-Pic "Sarah for Prime Minister" would be funny, wouldnt it? Or with double Title "Sarah for Prime Minister - No Sex please, we?re British".

Sandra Nova did manage to look good for a very brief period, early in her career. To be precise: in the softporn flick Bohr weiter, Kumpel (1974), she actually looks stunning. Admittedly, I feel hard pushed to name any other of her films in which she achieved that...

In an article about the British porn industry in Hot Video, some English girls did just that: posing with the Union Jack and on the London?s red buses.

I think this has less to do with the US and more with Germany. The problem is: advertisement.

In Germany, promotion of adult material is severely restricted. For example, you cannot run a commercial on TV to promote the release of a new porn DVD - which is a bit odd considering all these crude commercials for adult phone lines, but that is the situation - which started way back in 1975 when porn was legalised.

As a result it does not pay for the industry to invest in quality products, because it is difficult for them to tell their customers about it. Therefore, they aren't interested in building up stars - the stars would be more expensive, but would the revenue justify the increase in expenditure?
As soon as (if ever) the legal situation changes it would make sense for the industry to roll the drums for their better products and build up stars.

Thank you for that information beutelwolf. It really does explain a lot.

but i?m still being sceptical ..

did anyone see clear & direct advertisements for porn movies in UK, France or USA on free tv or illustrated papers????

since Mike Hunter ( Wasmund) German porn was ever a permanent topic in the regional & national tabloids .. and with the introduction of private tv in Germany the national "BIGS" of porn wandering through all existing evening talkshows .. Teresa Orlowski, Karin Schubert, Dolly Buster, the Rauch Sisters .. later Gina Wild, Mandy Mystery etc. .. TALKING & WRITING ABOUT BUT NEVER SHOWING ..
and still existing tv boulevard magazines as "Wahre Liebe" on VOX are definitely indirect advertisement magazines for porn movies which they cannot show explicitly ...

ok ... there is a strict limitation of distribution & advertisement in Germany ( as often discussed here) .. but there is still more "playing ground" than in UK ..

there must be another explanation for the differences.

In illustrated papers, yes. [in the UK and in Italy]
Certainly not on free TV.

sorry ... what i mean: direct & clear ..

you can find (in)direct advertisements for porn movies daily in German tabloids (with x millions of readers) by sellers/videotheques ( often combined) too as in regional copies of BILD, EXPRESS in Rhineland, BZ, AZ etc. ...
in the style: we are presenting the new movies of Dilara, Gina Wild, DollyB. etc. ... everybody knows what?s going on ..

VTO would not have sold tenthousands copies of Sibylle Rauch?s first porn movie in the 80?s without this special mix of (in)direct advertisement & public relations & matchplayers in all medias.

porn was & is a top topic in german public opinion since 20-25 years -
positive or negative is a second (and economically rather irrelevant)question ...

this special situation of German porn does need another explanantion as the known limitations. but it is very interesting discussion. thanks all!!
