When I say 'this sort of thing' I'm referring to the distinction between terrorist and freedom fighter, and those who think they're right when carrying out militant actions. People like Bin Laden and George W Bush were certain 'god' was on their side, which means they are justified in doing what most reasonable-thinking people would view as bad - because with 'god on your side' it is good and not bad. This is the problem.
It's interesting, the examples you've given where the person wasn't god-orientated. I suppose in those instances it comes down to fanaticism, ego, arrogance, an almost god-complex, and demagoguery.

Well, I think you are right Max that in the Middle East, religion is often at play e.g. Shia and Sunni.
Having said that I think in a lot of African and Middle Eastern societies where many people have absolutely nothing, the ranks of these "religious fanatics" are often partially filled by a collection of gangsters, foreign inadequates who fancy some ultra-violence, a large number of people looking for the promise of a regular meal instead of starving and those very scared at saying no to a recruitment offer from ISIL,
If you extend this terrorist/freedom fighter thing you mention to other areas like South America you will find that Communism and a desire to overthrow what is perceived as a cruel capitalist system also comes into play.
I trust you do not take my response to be vicious, online bullying of you, Max?
By the way, please give Sam a big hug. When you start creating threads on a porn O/T forum with the subject Am I being ostracised?, you definitely need some hugs. Its the sort of thread for Mumsnet, but perhaps not the BGAFD.
I should know. I've been there.
