Hmm. Thought people were only allowed one profile on BGAFD. I digress back to your point.
"I was referring to the minor incident of sexual harassment that is putting a hand on someone's knee, and I've stated the person doing it should be punished if guilty. How does that compare to more serious sexual assault? It clearly doesn't."
I was responding to the posted post. The words "and I've stated the person doing it should be punished if guilty." aren't on the post i was answering.
However i doubt if a serious perv sees any difference between touching and sexual assault.
In terms of punishment of course the one time hand on the knee won't get you locked up but your original point in your original post was women were using the knee touching incident to get publicity!!??? If your male boss put his hand on your knee (i assume you are male) and made his intentions clear, in 10 years down the line would you be telling this, to all in the media so you could get lots of publicity out of it?

"This cockneygeezer2009 chap's a bit excitable, isn't he?"
Not really. I've read the first post on this topic. I'm all for touching WITH PERMISSION.
Can you answer the simple question posed or will you dodge it too?
"If your male boss put his hand on your knee (i assume you are male) and made his intentions clear, in 10 years down the line would you be telling this, to all in the media so you could get lots of publicity out of it?"
My answer to this question is no i fucking wouldn't. Anyone with any common sense wouldn't either.

The women have the right to pursue their grievances, and any kind of
molesting is wrong and should be punished. I'm just surprised at how much
coverage they tried to get, going on every news programme and daytime
magazine show they could, when possibly just one or two interviews would
suffice. A by-product of this is they've become more well known and this will
lead to them becoming bigger names in the party and therefore in wider media
as time progresses.
A separate point, but I'm somewhat surprised no one door-stepped Lord
Rennard about this. Normally cameras appear outside the house of a person
who is implicated in something like this, or at the very least they would try
and interview him as he left the House of Parliament. But there have been
no attempts to interview him. I've personally never heard him speak or seen
any live film of him in recent times, it is all "library footage" as they call it, him
talking in the Lords, etc. I wonder why the media never tried to get a comment
from him about all these allegations during recent weeks. It's all very puzzling.

"I've hot heard of anyone else complaining about being touched that has led to then becoming a bigger name in society, but you are focusing on the specifics of their complaints here - I'm talking about the fact they've got nationwide coverage for something, whatever that might be, and how that usually leads to the person staying in the media spotlight. People like Stephen Pound, Louise Mensch, Tony Benn,"
This is a typical Maxism. Start off by making an inaccurate point about a female political adviser in the Lib Dems and then rattling on about Tony Benn as if you are talking about exactly the same situation.
1. Stephen Pound. Never heard of the guy. Hardly staying in the "media spotlight"
2. Louise Mensch. Haven't heard a squeak out of her for months. Hardly staying in the "media spotlight"
3. Tony Benn. See Point 2. Haven't heard much about him for months and months. Tony Benn has appeared on television quite a bit in the past mainly to give a perspective on politics from the point of view of someone who has an extraordinarily lengthy political career in the Labour party from cabinet minister to MP. In the same way Lamont and Lawson get interviewed about their time as cabinet ministers in Thatcher's government and the media want their perspective on Cameron. It is entirely appropriate that they appear on TV for those reasons.
Obviously, this has nothing whatsoever to do with the women who complained about Lord Rennard.
"It's the fact they will have, or are having, a career in politics or media, and in the case of the Rennard women a forthcoming career in media where they're regarded as highly achieving political people who should be listened to, and will keep being consulted about things on TV shows and in the print press, when it is unjustified and undeserved."
It is not a fact, Max. It is something that is your guess about the future. It is important to differentiate between guesswork and reality. Otherwise you end up with all sorts of problems.
THe following points are valid:
1. As far as I am aware the women concerned have not appeared on TV for several weeks now.
2. Some of the women who did complain, far from wanting to be viewed on numerous TV programmes were not prepared to show their faces on the Channel 4 story.
3. In some cases, this story is over 10 years old so you could hardly argue that the women concerned have made a great effort to get themselves on the media or indeed, for the media to go out of their way to get them on tele.

You have never heard of the Labour MP for Ealing? I find that hard to believe...

Must be a different Louise Mensch who has a column in The Sun on Sunday then... hardly staying out of the "media spotlight".

So you haven't seen the media interviews for the publication of the last volume of his diaries then? You haven't seen the numerous media interviews about him leaving his home to move into sheltered accommodation?
David, you need to stay in more...

Not my problem.

Like the overwhelming population of the UK, I don't read the Sun on Sunday. I

No.
You need to get out more, Essex Lad.

No but I do believe it's you being disingenuous.

Not my problem but for you to say she isn't in the media when she has a column in Britain's biggest-selling Sunday newspaper is frankly ridiculous.

For someone who spends so much time digging up "sources", you ought to widen your search parameters a bit...

Not disagreeing with you on that...

"but for you to say she isn't in the media when she has a column in Britain's biggest-selling Sunday newspaper is frankly ridiculous."
Well I would hardly call writing a column in an arse wipe of a Sunday newspaper as being in the "media spotlight".
To me being in the media spotlight is in line with Max's description i.e. writing columns, appearing frequently on television in a range of programmes etc.
You'll be telling me next Dennis the Menace is in the media spotlight because he appears in the Beano .

You might not but I suspect most others would.

"Er, she does, David, she does."
Well, for your homework, provide us all with a list of the TV programmes, Mensch has appeared on in the last 3 months, say.
Failure to do so, would suggest that you are bullshitting. Not for the first time !wink!.
