What's wrong with that? Can you not be a fan of someone wholly based on lust?

Re: Gentleman
Sam we are talking about getting an award for sporting talent. Compared to Mo Farah, Ben Ainslie or Daley Thomson the underpant model is not in the same league. Knighthoods go to greats not those with nice cheekbones that appeal to chavvy women.

Michael Caine v Karren Brady...
Michael Caine has made something like 100 movies and is twice the age of Karren Brady. He was probably the first film star to make it in Britain coming from a working class background and opened the door for countless others to be able to do so. She has pressed for more women to move up the corporate ladder, chaired a football club, and has taken Margaret's seat on The Apprentice. He became a star the world over, helped put the British movie industry on the international map; she is barely known outside Britain - in fact a lot of people within Britain don't know who she is. Michael Caine is 80, Karren Brady is 44. Both have CBE's! Can someone explain this to me? Actually, come to think of it, perhaps this explains it...

Re: Gentleman
Beckham isn't Messi or Ronaldo, but to just label him an 'underwear model' is ridiculous. He's worked under Ferguson, Cappello and Ancelotti. He proved himself to 3 of the best managers of the last two decades.
And while his achievements might not rank alongside olympic gold medals, to be fair to him he was in a game that means he had to be on top of his game week in, week out, year after year after year. Athletes have seasons within a year where they take long breaks and build up their bodies to big events. It's about peaking at the right time. It's a little different to being a footballer or rugby player where you have to be at a good level throughout the year.

Not sure age has anything to do with it. Kate Winslett has a CBE, which she got when she was 36.
Michael Caine also has a knighthood. As yet she is not Dame Karren...
Very few people have heard of the majority of people on the honours' lists ? it's only the showbizzy ones who make the news.
