Maybe if he had used some of his newfound left leaning tendencies that the media rehab has imbued him with he'd still be in a job rather than being a yes man for the wretched Tories.

The only argument you offered was that his answers on a tv show were 'well thought out'. That's hardly a qualification. Given that he's probably briefed in advance re the questions that's the least one should expect.
I don't care how 'clever', 'brilliant' or 'articulate' they are (just words) they still f**k up and he would have been no different.
You're proposing him as a leader. What kind of vision has he ever offered ?

I don't hate him. I agree with you that he is very good on This Week. However...
I think disloyal, duplicitous, cowardly and bad judgment are the only words to describe his behaviour when John Major was PM. Backing him in public, Portillo nevertheless began canvassing support privately to see if he could unseat him. He had a bank of telephones installed in a house in Lord North St to use as his campaign HQ. Then he ummed and ahhed about challenging him, probably remembering Heseltine ? he who wields the dagger never wears the crown ? and lost his nerve. He let John Redwood mount the challenge and continued to brief against Major from behind the scenes. One of the reasons he was one of the "bastards" mentioned by Major in his chat with Michael Brunson.
Disloyal and duplicitous are two words I'd use to describe Ed Balls when Tony Blair was in No 10.
