Dave, if you figure in the unemployed, longterm "sick", "neets", housewives and those who don't bother to sign on, your figures are probably spot on.

When I was back at uni a couple of years ago, McDonalds wouldn't give me an interview.....mcdonalds!! I suspect is was because I was too old and they wanted a cheaper youngster.

Also have to agree with this. I worked with the unemployed for seven years (not in the jobcentre). The only ones that are counted are the people that go to sign on every two weeks, declaring that they are 'actively seeking' and are able to work. The groups that I had would not be counted as they were on a government training scheme.

I am unemployed and I enjoy it. Not like the bad old days. I spent twenty years running to catch trains, arguing with my gaffer, few pints with the gaffers and the lads after work, last train home then up again seven hours later to repeat the same thing again.

taking into account paying full council tax, train fares, rip-off sandwiches for lunch I would say I am no worse off being on the dole. I am one of those cunts the tories and any other party hate, a happy dole waller.

Only fools and horses work we all know that

Methinks you're just trying to be controversial knowing that comments like that get frowned upon by most people on here.

But, if you are serious, then you're also a twat. Why should our taxes keep you in what sounds like a life of luxury? We all have to work to make our way in the world. And there's a certain level of pride in earning the stuff you've got.

Gotta love the pride found in working cliche touted by politicians, where's the pride in having to work outlandish hours at minimum wage to scrape just enough to keep a roof over your head.

The pride is knowing that you've earned it. You're not expecting everybody else to work and support you.

Or prehaps the feeling of exploitation knowing that others are reaping far higher rewards on the back of your labour and that you're considered to be only worth the legal lowest amount of money they have to pay.

I earned every penny I owned. I worked hard. I am a homeowner ie I bought my own place.

I got sick of paying full council tax and getting fucked over so when i got the sack from my last job I thought "hey lets see if this unemployment lark is any good"

And it is. Its quite nice.
