Unlike boxing where the object is for two burly men to inflict brain damage on each other until one passes out. Some of that damage is permanent causing boxes to have a high incidence of Alzhiemers and Parkinson's diseases. And that's apart from the facial injuries.

Occasionally a boxer will be critically injured in the ring, in front of a paying live TV audience, or even die.

But that's supposed to be OK because they give informed consent to take the risks.

Seriously though, I know what you mean. Boxing's one thing, but I can't understand why anybody would want to watch that extreme kick boxing (or whatever it's called) that's shown these days. Actual violence repulses me. I'm not saying that they should allow porn (soft core or hardcore) on any channels that kids might accidentally see. But I get your point about violence, I don't see the appeal myself....

Yes, I have never really understood the "violence is OK because it's not real but sex is not OK because it is" argument. I think anti-porn campaigners just use whatever argument suits them, not what they really believe. Would an explicit sex scene be OK if it used very real prosthetics?

Provided there are adequate controls to prevent kids watching, and to prevent sensitive souls tuning in by accident, and a choice of other material, where's the harm? Why not allow soft-core porn on late night Free To Air TV and hard-core on late night encrypted channels?

That's part of the point. The rules are so tight the gails can hardly do anything and producers are afraid to let them do anything that's not safe.

If you watch so called porn on TV I feel sorry for you.
There is enough "Hard" porn availlable on line, and a lot is FREE, much to the chagrin of Lady Sonia, Jimslip and Ben Dover, to name just 3. The other advantage is that there is so much choice, which you just wouldn't get on late tv.

Fair enough, but you could say exactly the same about top shelf porn in the newsagents or DVDs in sex shops.

Why should n't adults be able to decide for themselves, instead of nanny state deciding for us.
