I defended myself.

Gator, take the wife/girlfriend out of the scenario, he came accross the street with the intent of causing you actual bodily harm, he came of worse, just stick to that story in court, it may not even reach that stage, the police will decide.
I wouldn't worry, just tell it how it happened.

I worry.
The fact that he wasn't arrested and I was treated like a common scumbag leads me to believe that this won't end well.
We'll see what the lawyer says tomorrow.

The cops also keep saying that I was being a 'good samaritan'.
I didn't step in and say "Okay break it up, you two." I simply slowed my pace and kept a visible presence so he would not hurt her with a witness present. I was already heading in the same direction anyway.
When he got impatient that's when the confrontation started.

The way i see it you werent a good samaritan you were a completely innocent member of the public who after witnessing a man assaulting a woman was then assaulted by the man yourself and used proportionate force (which is allowed in law) to defend yourself

Yes proportionate force is allowed... but
"I FUCKING DESTROYED THAT CUNT!
And I mean destroyed. I am relatively unhurt but that evil, sadistic bastard is now massively disfigured for life.
He hobbled to the police station"
That doesn't sound like proportionate force to me. I suppose it also comes down to what "massively disfigured" actually means...

It's just locker-room talk. And by massively disfigured I mean he was already ugly, but now he's uglier.
