According to The Telegraph another 300 or so large businesses are also running similar schemes and are under investigation....banks, hedge funds etc...

Really, that many!

Is the person who set up the Rangers scheme a member of this forum?

I actually have no idea who it was that informed Rangers of the EBT or who was advising them. But like Arginald i was aware of other cases involving big businesses and other football clubs. I believe Portsmouth FC are one, and they are also in Administration.

Interestingly Peter Lawell who is Celtic FC's Chief Executive came out last year and said an "Advisor" offered them the chance to set up EBT offshore for players wages which Celtic declined believing it would come to this. So obviously whoever was advising Rangers didn't do their homework.

Though i struggle to believe that it was just Rangers and Portsmouth? I wonder which other Clubs have did it or with similar offshore payments?

To answer my earlier question, I have now ascertained that the Rangers EBT scheme was devised by a member of this forum. Maybe he will be willing to post in this thread and tell us more about it, but I somehow doubt it.

In case of any doubt, I'd like to state that it wasn't me who devised the Rangers tax avoidance scheme!

To clarify, I don't think the person in question has ever posted in this O/T area, only in the other 2 forums.

The story of who authored the Rangers tax scheme has made a couple of front pages now, so anyone who didn't know who it was before will surely know now.

I would be gobsmacked if Rangers took this advice based on just one person/company's advice.

The pson being referred to here did not authorise the Rangers tax scheme. The person being referred to is a porn performer and a business associate and financial advisor to current Rangers owner and chairman Craig Whyte. The EBT Tax scheme and HMRC case against Rangers stems back from a business decision made by the previous owner Sir David Murray in 2000 through to the years 2008, way before Craig Whyte took control of the club. And said porn performer had no influence on this decision as he has/had nothing to do with Rangers FC or its owner then Sir David Murray.

Quite refreshing to see a sensible online discussion on the Rangers issue, without a thread having been ruined by rival fans who are only interested in making petty digs.
