"Ah well I'm not here to defend Blackpool."

Ok, I'll do it then, in my very younger years as a musician Blackpool was very good to me, and for families in the North with limited funds it was an exciting break from the tedium of Mill town drudgery. It catered for everyone and many people would never have been able to afford a break had it not been for Blackpool, sure some parts of it are rough, but that's the same as all major seaside towns and all cities. Blackpool has a rich history of entertaiment, fun and adventure, there is nowhere else like it in the UK. I would not holiday in Blackpool now because my circumstances and tastes have changed dramatically since my early youth, but it's still a blast just having the odd weekend there., and if you haven't been for a while you would be surprised at the changes, anyway I wouldn't knock it, it's unique and long may it prosper.

It's a pity that Blackpool did not get the proposed casino a few years ago.
It could well have regenerated the town and created more employment and visitor numbers.

It was a blow re. the casino concept but having said that visitor numbers were up to 13 million in 2010 from about 10 million in 2007.

And when the seawall/promenade works finally, finally get finished this year after a huge engineering project, the town will look very different, with the upgrade work on the Winter Gardens and Tower also finished.

With a lot of people not being able to afford trips to Euroland as the pound dives, I think Blackpool's success will continue.

Cheers

Well Blackpool will just have to cope without your support.

Where is it for you, this summer then, Tuscany?

David,
I had not realized that the visitor numbers to Blackpool were up last year.

I wonder if Blackpool being in the Premier league helped matters with many visiting supporters making a weekend break of it.
