Here is a little ditty from the man himself Mr PH, I am sure it will warm the cockles of your heart! It's called, "There's Power in The Union!". I wonder if he composed it from his sun verandah overlooking the English Channel?

Billy Bragg replies to JS, PH and BB

I've just got off the phone from Billy Bragg.

He realises the error of his ways so he has agreed to the following:

1. He's moving back to a council house in Barking.
2. He will be smashing the indoor toilet and putting an outside toilet in the garden shed to give it a real Woody Guthrie feel (look him up if you need to).
3. He has stopped doing music because as he said "It makes him quite a bit of money".
4. Instead he has applied for a job in Tesco's on the grounds that "working for yourself is fine but nothing like being exploited by your local multinational outlet"
5. He is putting forward a new law that states you cannot sing about anything that you havent directly experienced yourself in the last year. All singers who croon about moon in june have put in a formal complaint.
6. He has told various charities that he will not be supporting them any more nor doing any free gigs. "How can I support a charity if I am well-off? Its totally immoral!"

Happy now, lads?

Cheers

Billy's proposed law that you cannot sing about anything you havent yourself experienced in the last year is meeting stiff opposition.

His law means you cannot sing about poverty unless you are in poverty. You cannot sing about natural disasters unless you have been in a natural disaster e.g. major earthquake, tsunami.

Geldof and Bono have already contacted their lawyers about Billy's law.

David, even you, must get quietly fed up with these Champagne Socialists spouting forth nonsense and basically fucking up your cause. Did you know if you put, Tony Blair, Billy Bragg, Bono, Stephen Fry and Ben Elton's money together it's got to add up to ?70 million!

What do they have in common with the, "Working man" apart from a vague recollection of working in Woolworths when they were teenagers?

What do you want? A law that says people cannot make money and become rich?

I have no problem with people getting rich through their efforts. As long as they don't exploit their workforce either here or overseas or squirrel their money offshore using dodgy tax avoidance schemes based on tax loopholes, why should I?

What are you saying? There is a level of income above which it should be made illegal for people to support foreign aid, measures to help the poor and be in favour of trade unions?

If the people you mention gave away their entire fortunes to those UK citizens on the minimum wage they would get about 5 to 10p each. Is that the answer to the problem?

Its amazing what one miss when one doesn't pay attention. The new law prohibiting someone from living in another part of the country to where they were born, in a house bought with their after-tax earnings, seems to have been introduced without me noticing. Looks like I'll have to move back oop t'north pretty sharp.

You have obviously not being paying attention to the news recently.

You also missed the law banning people from being well-off and at the same time suggesting that it's a good idea for people to join trade unions to help protect their working conditions. Some of these well-off people were even singing songs about it! Bloody hypocrites!

No I wasn't suggesting any kind of law, but more of a "Don't they just piss you off, these characters lecturing everyone about Socialist values from the confines of their mansions."
