Orion distribution from Germany have been shooting lovemaking films for over ten years. They are big sellers and they put a stink load in to the budget.

Nobody understands the R18 thing.
You're not supposed to- that's the point.

I was just wondering from the point of view of shooting some scenes and them selling them on a website and a foreign mailorder dvd company.
I understand the website bit now, just not sure about the uk law if I had a dvd for sale on adultdvdnow or simplyporndvd that didn't have an R18 rating ?

Well yes, simplyporn are foreign-based and sell uncertificated discs
by mail-order anyway, so the R18 thing is irrelevant.
The govt., with its usual cynical Catch-22 tactics, says it's legal to
own uncerted discs but not to order them from within the UK- hence
the farce of the R18 system. It would collapse ovenight if robustly
challenged [almost no obscenity prosecution has ever succeeded in
Britain], but understandably most UK outfits prefer to go along
with it rather than go to the expense and trouible of a long-drawn
out legal case.
In 15 years of ordering I've had about two confiscations, both from
Holland; none from the US, none from the rest of Europe. I just
reordered, specifying a different shipment method.

so is it true that you can shoot a porno in England and sell it mail order through a mail order company based overseas and it does'nt need an R18?
according to melonfarmers:
Hardcore videos may now be legally bought from:
* Any shop abroad and hand carried back into the UK
* Any overseas based online sex shop and import via mail
* Any mail order company based overseas
so me buying stuff from adultdvdnow is perfectly legal, even if it doesn't totally comply with the R18 rules as long as it is not really extreme, which I would'nt buy anyway.
seems like the R18 is a bit of a waste of time unless it applies to everything bought off the internet, and that would turn us into a nanny state, it would be like living in China where the gov't bans people from accessing certain sites overseas.

No govt. has yet been able to think of a way to regulate the
internet effectively, much as they'd like to. For our own good,
of course....
