Nu Labour seems to be the current catch phrase around here. It sounds boring already and I dont think it matters what party is in power it was going to come to this anyway.
The authorities are looking for more powers top make examples of people that may have been harder to get before is all it is.

Making porn is still under the same laws as before so producer will be OK.
What the difference is that is will now be illegal to view and download these images, hence no-one viewing them, no-one joining porn sites, hence porn directors will have to get real jobs.
The problem with the law is that, although a tragic event happened, it?s overkill. We don?t ban carsm we have not completely banned smoking or drinking. More people die from these everyday than someone who watches extreme porn who becomes a psychotic killer.
Government are to blame because they want to control all that you do. The media is part to blame because they try and take the moral high ground yet at the same time the BBC are showing two programs on girls wanting to become glamour models. Strange!

That should be obvious to anyone with half a brain: Psychotic sadists who'd probably kill anyway may well seek out "extreme" material (which is what seems to have occurred here) - but the notion of sane, balanced, rational adults able to distinguish between right and wrong, and between fantasy and reality, being turned into murdering nutters through exposure to such material is - quite frankly - bollocks of the highest order.
I also recall reading somewhere (and this has been played down by the media and completely airbrushed out by the Longhursts / the government, of course) that Jane Longhurst was actually a willing participant in whatever "games" she and Cotts were playing and in fact had a bit of a penchant for the kinky / masochistic stuff.
But of course in this day and age, the "victim" is always held to be "blameless" and as Alice says, it's far easier and more politically correct to seek out a scapegoat to blame something / someone else - in this case so-called "extreme" porn.
I fear that this is just the thin end of the wedge, and that the next target will be more "mainstream" porn (anal is already a grey area now).

Hasnt the person convicted of killing Jane Longhurst been given the right of a retrial as the original conviction was deemed unsafe, if this is so then the goverment are rushing this through in case he gets off which would put a serious dent their argument ?

Already been done, Graham. And he was convicted of murder again at the second trial.
Detailed report of the whole case at Wiki. Let people make their own minds up.
Seems to me that trying to hide / burn the body is what swayed the jury to convict him of murder.

The UK has only a tiny proportion of the world's porn viewers, so the law will have zero effect on the world trade, viewing or production of the so-called nasty stuff. None of the sites would ever be hosted here anyway.
Can't see this law having much effect on the average viewer, apart from another charge to throw at someone they want on another count.
The MP's will still be shagging their rent boys and swinging from the doors of their apartment with an orange in their mouths and a dildo up their arse.
