Re: Is belief in God idiotic?

Belief or disbelief in God is a personal choice and as such should be respected, so long as they don't try to force their beliefs onto others. We believe in lots of "scientific" things that we as "people" have never seen and have only the word of a few boffins to back it up. Science continually changes its mind and finds out they are mistaken or that there ideas were/are wrong and just like religion, science often raises more questions than it answers.
It has just become sort of fashionable to scorn religion and babble science, due to nob heads like James randy an ex magaician who uses deceit, lies and trickery to discredit anything he cant explain. He has no scientific or psychological or medical background yet he spouts all kinds of biased crap. He has no interest in finding out the truth only in disproving things and sometimes the alternative is more bizarre than a belief in some other worldly or divine power. However when you have cocks like Acorah, acting like a crazy on national tv and getting posessed every 3 seconds, can you blame people for thinking it's all rubbish.
It's easy to say religion is all about control and money. Most didn't start off to do that though and there still are some positive religions out there. They just happen to be, generally, in more "primitive" societies or in the eastern religions. It is not the idea that is at fault it is what people have done with it. Science cannot explain everything, even when it's right. Until then a belief in some form of higher power is as good as anything else. As for the question I think it would make very little difference, even if Gabriel did appear, as one vote against the rest of the jury would not change the verdict. Though people have gone to jail with lots of "scientific" evidence which has later been found to be wrong.
Babble over...phew
