I do find it quite amusing that us Brits who probably were the greatest ethnic cleansers (along with the French) of the 18/19th century suddenly should feel aghast at what Hitler was all about ... History will show that some of the most lauded and decorated nations/people wiped Millions from this planet with their own version of Utopia long before Adolf even got that urge .. why is it these people are fondly looked back in history as being some of the greatest people to grace this earth yet hitler is looked upon as being some sort of antihuman antibody ... will history in a few hundred years look back so harshly on Hitler??

I can't remember Britain trying to 'ethnically cleanse' anywhere. Rule, yes. Make money from, yes. Civilise(in their eyes), yes, but eradicating races has never really been our 'cup of tea'.

We've been brutal -though not as bad as the Spanish and Portuguese- but our Empire was expansion and merging cultures. Yes we imposed our rule, but in India lots of British immigrants adopted local language and customs, marrying locals etc; a far cry from what the Spanish did in central america with the locals.

We're in no way angels, but compared to Hitler/Mao & Stalin, Empire was quite good.
