BBC Scotland has a history of comedy sketch shows. A Kick Up The 80s featured Tracey Ullman and Rick Mayall (Kevin Turvey) before they became national figures; Laugh, I Nearly Paid My License Fee had Coltrane, Ron Bain (later to be one of the Naked Video guys) and John Sessions, among others. Particularly memorable was Coltrane's Orangeman character Mason Boyne.
Following that, was Naked Video, and a few years later Chewin' The Fat.

BBC Scotland have a special comedy unit - no seriously they do! I don't know whether any other BBC national departments have something similar? Then again their news and current affairs output could be described as a 'comedy unit'!

The Still Game/Chewin' The Fat guys cut their comedy teeth working on Off The Ball on Radio Scotland.
