Can't wait for July then!
I'm fed up of washing my clothes, ironing them, and meeting my mates for a drink, only to come home smelling like shit. I then wake up with a sore throat.
My girlfriend purchased a gorgeous dress for Christmas Eve, and got it ruined by some careless, ignorant smoker who managed to put a burn in it. Also who hasn't been accidentally burnt my someone else's cigarette?
The worst thing is going into a pub for lunch and having to eat your food around smokers, or full ashtrays, yuk!
I think there should be separate rooms I guess, but that costs money, and how many small pubs can accommodate 2 separate rooms? Those that have room for 2 different rooms might put the beer up to pay for the extra cost, so that means non-smokers pay for smokers to have their own little room.
Either way, non-smokers pay for it. Aren't one of the running costs of a pub/club/nightclub new carpets, seating and decoration? Don't smokers cause the cigarette burn in the carpets and leather seating? Isn't it the smokers that turn the ceilings & walls a different colour? Doesn't all this redecoration cost get filtered down to the price of the beer? Next tie you complain about the price of a pint, blame the smokers....
If nightclubs and bars can accommodate smokers and non-smokers then I'm all for it. I'm just not sure I want to pay for it.

I must say I'm inclined to agree with all this - treating smokers as social lepers after taking collosal amounts off them via the tax does seem harsh. As well as ungrateful. Typical New Labour.

Well clear off to a restuarant then. It's called a Pub Lunch, meaning it's in a pub.
Always thought smoking added to the atmosphere and character of a public house, but I suppose many will get entirely smoke free and blander as this sort of gentrification continues apace. It's probably what the middle classes want - and thus Tony gives.
Have to feel sorry for that little bloke going from table to table with the carrier bag of hooky B&H under his arm too. Door to door now?

A nanny state it may be becoming, but it's not nannying to say person 'A' has to suffer because person 'B' can't go 3 hours without a fucking cigarette.
Like I said, I'd approve of separate rooms if the costs weren't laid out on non-smokers. If they smoke, that's not my problem, if they can't go from 8-12 without lighting up then they have a problem, not me. If a drinker couldn't go 4 hours without a drink he'd be an alcoholic. They're the addicted ones not non-smokers.
Ps. Shit does happen, but if she'd burnt it with the iron then that's through her own carelessness, not someone else's habit.
As for buying her another 6 dresses. I will in July! Muahahahahahahahaha!

I'm with the Lizard on this one...these bastards who want to ban things do not know when to stop. The same arguments they've used to ban smoking can be used to ban drinking too (which again, I agree with the Lizard that drink is a far more dangerous drug than smoking). They use the argument that passive smoking kills, but I'll warrant that more people are killed each year through passive drinking. By that I mean that every pissed up arsehole who attacks someone on the streeet for no reason, or climbs into his car and drives home pissed out of his head and hits someone on the pavement or in another car, is responsible for these people being killed or injured through his selfish actions. Make these bastards stand outside of pubs all night...do not let the fuckers drink.
Also, I've just returned from two weeks working in Scotland, and next to the hotel where I stayed there was a nice little pub with an outside smoking area. THis was an area of decking with a canopy over it and patio heaters. Even in the depths of January it was quite pleasant standing there with other smokers, having a chat. Someonre then remarked that come the summer, smokers wouldn.t be able to get a seat out there for the non-smokers wishing to sit outside, and how long itwould be before the whingy bastards wanted smoking banned in that area.
You've won, you've got what you wanted now FUCK OFF and let us kill ourselves in peace. Go and devote your efforts into getting something banned that would benefit us all, like taxation.
And stop using the hackneyed anti-smoking cliches that you lot seem to find so funny and we've heard a fucking million times.
