Any thing by Radiohead and Cold Play, miserable whining middle class boys, how ever I appreciate that other people think they're great. But a smile costs nothing you know.

You are so right ( because I agree with you ! ).
In Oz there is a government funded national 'youth' radio station ( run by 45 year olds ) who will rave about about a new band until they become big, then they trash them and laugh at their very existance. It seems popularity = rubbish. I think the idea is similar to the art critics dilema in that they cant stand a work that is popular because it means that all us commoners can understand it. They must be seen to be above all that.
Oh by the way, I have been a Warren Zevon fan since I first got his ' Excitable Boy ' album in 1978. Its one of those albums that I finish up playing through the whole thing almost every time. Werewolves of London is actually my least favourite song on it. He had a troubled life poor bugger.
And hows this - I have over 300 CDs covering stuff from the past 35 years and yet one of my most played ones is Holly Valance's State of Mind ! True.

Yeah, I agree.
Other examples include the great classical composers, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven et al.
I mean, on the underground scene from 1700-1920 they were so cool, but with the advent of the Industrial revolution and nefarious tricksters like Edison and all those guys inventing TV, the phonograph and the hi-fi............. weeeeeeeeeeelllllllll, shower of smug bast*rds, the genius composers sell out. Even the chav masses disregard such pap as 'mainstream'. Beethoven's 5th reached no. 2 in Ye Olde Charte der Pops in 1742, and the end result? It's dismissed as beesmilk, total pish- just for being a commercial success. The guy had to go to Ye Priory for snuff addiction and serious mead problems, such were the trappings of his wealth- two cows and a young persian boy for no. 1 back then.
That 5th needed a few more overdubs, a bit more sampling and the bass players back then were shite anyway.
What's my general point?
That 'Teenage Kicks' is a belter.
!wink!

Well, how's this:- On a tour which included Vienna, our tour guide was telling us about a dumb blonde who went to a 'Mozart' concert which is regularly put on by students of the Vienna Music School. They dress up in period costumes and play away. So, the dumb chick is waiting for the concert to start and said to the guide " I didn't realise Mozart was still alive ".

>Beatles (possibly THE most overrated band ever??)
Course they were.
That is why there are hundreds of tribute bands, people cannot stand listening to their music.
That is why Yesterday is the most recorded song ever. Terrible song.
That is why their albums STILL get into the top 100 albums of all time, 40 years after they came out. Awful albums.
That is why people still listen to their music 40 years after most of it was recorded. Rubbish songs.
I guess you did not grow up in the 1960s but if you had an idea of the impact they had around the world you would not such a stupid comment.
NO UK band had EVER broken the USA, EVER, before the Beatles went there. Then they hit it big, and at one time the had the TOP SIX singles in the US top 10.
And this is when having a hit single was an important thing.
Maybe you do not like them, but I bet if you asked most pop or rock musicians who were the best group ever, most would reply the Beatles.
