But that's the whole point, the Government already squanders billions from the tax revenue it rakes in every year - so why should they be trusted not to squander any new, so-called "green" taxes as well?

That's a separate issue issue and not the point of my posting. If the government squanders the extra tax then they should be held to account for it.............but that doesn't mean the actual 'taxing' is wrong, nor does it mean global warming is a load of crap.

My point to Planeterotica is that global warming is real, and anyone who thinks otherwise is pretty ignorant of the science, or lying to themselves because they love their car too much, (imho).

Everyone who paid attention - because it wasn't a report about whether climate change is happening, but about the relative costs of trying to slow it down as against trying to adapt to its results. The operative word being 'costs', i.e. just the sort of thing an economist should be talking about.

It's also the case that nearly all the skeptics about anthopogenic climate change that are interviewed on TV and radio are also not climatologists. I wish the interviewers would ask them what qualifies them to pontificate on the matter - e.g. Ruth Dietch (not sure how her surname is spelled) on Radio 5 yesterday afternoon.

Fuck the "Chelsea Tractors" I'm thinking of something like The Ferrari F40 which spews unburned petrol out of it's exhausts which ignites upon emission thus destroying entire ecosystems as fast as it goes from 0 to 60mph (Plus it looks cool). It's also as loud as a Black Sabbath gig. Ownership also has the added bonus of proving you are richer than everyone else and easing the pulling of top birds, preferably from Eastern Europe.

my conclusion after watching and reading most of the information for the last 10years is that obviously the sun has a much bigger impact on our climate than we do,but our contribution to warming is significant enough to make the big difference,that percentage that we pump into the atmosphere is taking us over the edge.

I think the point that PE was trying to make, Bob, wasn't so much that there's no such thing as global warming (which most people accept that there is, the main argument being about its degree and severity) but that the Government is now using it as a scare tactic in order to frighten and brow-beat the public at large into accepting yet more tax hikes - thinly disguised as "policies to save the environment". At least that's how I interpret PE's argument, and I have to say that I agree with it.
