George Orwell was a prophet, as he wrote about "Newspeak" (aka PC) and "Police of the Thought". Here we are, I think.

I think another way to look at this is to think if someone made a joke about your mama or your kid being ugly because it has downs syndrome or some such for the impact of this to have any meaning to the individual. Then and only then can you be considered as being light hearted and jovial enough to have what is deemed "a sense of humour".
How many of you wouldnt be offended by a joke you didnt find funny? Thats all I'm saying....Between two blokes in a pub with hunched shoulders chortling over something twisted is one thing but for the amusement of a nation when it is on public display is another thing.
I aint no saint but I didnt personally find the cartoons that funny and I aint even religious so thats nothing todo with it...I wont rule out having a laugh if I did find it funny mind.

well when porn is the hot topic because some sad religous freak finds a bird being done silly by a couple of studs harmfull to kabul and so wants to ban all erotic and nude images because some bloke 500 years back who he never met said blah blah i shall be the first to point the finger and say i told you this would happen. 9/11 and 7/7 changed the world forever and only because we became aware that such sad freaks exist and we flinched.

Why did we have protesters on the streets of London today because of a cartoon published in a couple of of European papers? Jack Straw has already stood up and slated it (what a surprise) These idiots play right into the hands of the BNP.

The cartoons were never produced to be funny or 'have a go' at the Islamic ideology, they were a quick knock-up to say, 'is it wrong to do this sort of thing?' to illustrate a news story about an illustrator who had demanded not to be credited and remain anonymous because he had drawn a picture of Mohammed in a childrens book which, ironically, was supposed to promote understanding of Islam in schools.

filthy mud slime cunts were marching on the streets of london today calling for more death and murder.these were the same ones who blew up british people on the underground.what did Nick Griffen say?that moslems in this country were plotting murder and laughing about murders they had already got away with.never a truer word spoken.fuck them if their feelings are hurt and they dont find it funny.this is the west and we have freedom of expression here.but no-one will criticise them for fear of being called RACIST.

Well a cartoon in bad taste would be a Rabbi giving Hitler a gas bill?
I'm sure that some people will find it funny but most will find it offensive and just plain wrong - would you print that, because you have a right to do so knowing full well you will be offending a hell of a lot of people?
It's all subjective. A cartoon about Gary Glitter is not going to be as offensive as the one above or of the Mohammed ones.
Think before you drink, before you post.

Of course, you can't be a racist for questioning/criticising an ideology.

Mad Burt, I can see you feel passionately about this but you are going off the radar with this...How did we get into muslims going nuts about banning porn?! Who cares what they say about this subject in their country. If its in their country thats another matter. Lets try and stay on track here eh?
Dorrin, you are obviously blinded with your own argument to not realise the reason why people are protesting here is because they want to make a point that they dont find the jokes very funny. I couldnt think of a better way to make a point if I was a party pooper. Turn over a few tables and fire off some brimstone and thunder and people will get the point not to do it again. Thats the point I am trying to make here. So muslims dont have a great sense of humour. Do you know any stand up comedians to come out of Afghanistan?
The price of freedom still comes at a price. You have the right to say something, the next person has a right to react....You think this country is free? Yeah right...Maybe I should stroll down Park Lane to the Dorchester and cop a feel of some celebrities tits and when they complain say..."What?! Its a free country innit!!!" Or better still..."Oh lighten up...Wheres your sense of humour"...Do you see where I'm coming from? Or maybe I should grab your mamas ass- Hey it was a joke!

Jacques...I can see the funny side of that in a cruelly ironic way but i wouldnt expect any jewish person who has been affected by a loss during the holocaust to see it the same way....
Again thats a joke that people can find funnyy in a small circle but imagine someone like Jim Davidson telling that joke on National TV....Not so funny.
Time and place is important...Diplomacy is the word thats missing here
