What was it about film spinoffs from TV. As you point out there was a period when they were happening more frequently. Doing a search on Dr. Who I came across a reference to plans to make rather more than 2 but audiences didn't justify it.
Any chance of The Office - the movie et al.

It was an easy option for film-makers in the UK in the 1970s. "Ah, such and such a comedy gets 12 million viewers on ITV each week, so our film version is bound to be a success." They obviously didn't factor in the apathy equation. And in those days before remotes were common, it was just too much bother for some folk to get up and change channel.

Remember, even Eric and Ernie failed on the big screen. That didn't stop some braindead arsewipe thinking Cannon and Ball would succeed.

> 1) The Sweeney! (First film was crap, 2nd far better)

Although the first did have Diane Keen (whatever happened to her?) topless - although points deducted for a laughable foreign accent!

My other contenders - especially Doomwatch, Bless This House and On The Buses - have already been nominated.

Not sure about the two Dr Who movies with Peter Cushing, though.

Sorry, Ace, I beg to differ.

While you're right to say that Linda Bellingham (ex-Oxo mum, now doing a terrific job as a gangster in The Bill) did bare her bits in the Sweeney film, I think you'll find Diane Keen did as well - albeit briefly.

I've found a pic of her from the film:

Here's another - this time Linda Bellingham:

Ms Keen is now to be found on daytime soap Doctors, not looking all that different from 20 years ago.
