I was actually rooting for a Cubs v Red Sox World Series last year as I think that would have been great for baseball that 2 big, traditional. well supported and long suffering (cursed) ball clubs could at last come to the party.

But alas it wasn't to be.

Maybe this year though for The Sox and I think it just might be. The curse must be broken at some stage and the Red Sox have to win sometime surely.

Just depends whether they truly believe that they can beat the "evil empire", what with one ball clubs history of success and the Red Sox's of failure.

Judging by last weekends tame effort from "The Sox" at Yankee Stadium that may not be the case.

PS.

Good luck with Garciaparra. He's shot!

I take your point about Vaughan. Big players make big plays in big games and he's a big time player.

No need to worry about Warne.

He'll be too busy on the phone, calling nurses and having phone sex with them.

I will say this for Warne- he is a great player who would have graced the game in any age.

Without him Australia look vulnerable.

England to face West Indies in the final. I know who my money is on...

And as for the Ashes. Give us that urn back now, save yourself some bother later.

I agree with you. Warne was and still is a great player and he is in Richie Benaud's all time team and if he makes that team then thats good enough for me.

Got a certain charisma about him I think.

Warne has had a good season in county cricket and bagged a few wickets this season as well as captaining his side, think the Aussies could have done with him in the team, then again they did well when he was banned from the side for a year.

Credit has got to be due to the way England went about playing cricket in the match and they where up against the best side in the world. To be the best you have to beat the best in order to earn the respect of being a good side. They have done well considering they never made the natwest triangle series final and now got them selves together and took the confidence from the test in to the one day arena.

Should be a good match with the West indies in the finals, that is if West Indies play there best XI. I don't rate Collymore very much, England have sussed him out in the home & away series. I would much rather see Merv Dillion take his place if he is fit enough. Hope Lara makes a recovery in time for the final after the knock he took in the semis with Pakistan.

I said I fancied West Indies to beat Pakistan. Like most cricket fans I have a soft spot for the West Indies side and I think they have done well to get to the final. Beating South Africa was a sweet moment for all neutrals.

This could be Lara's great swansong, but Gayle and Sarwan are the men in form. Bravo is probably their best bowler at the moment. Would love to see Lara at his very best on saturday, because he is a great player; but England must be hot favourites.

If I may be permitted to gloat just once more-

England BEAT Australia by SIX wickets.
England BEAT Australia by SIX wickets.
England BEAT etc....

Viva Freddie!
Viva Moz!
Viva Angleterre!

England West Indies final

Well the underdogs did it!! It was a tough game, England nearly did it but the windies came through and Brian Lara's men must be proud.

A good effort by Windies unlikely heros Bradshaw & Browne when the side were 8 down and looking towards defeat, but not to be, they kept going and got West Indies home. England should not be down hearted with the way they played as well, I mean they almost defended that total. The game is not over until the last ball is bowled, I think the Windies really neeeded this win to boost Windies cricket and they will be talking a trophy back home and I guess Lara's captain spot is safe for now and the side having been in two one day finals have some thing to look up to.

Well done West Indies
Bad luck England, but a great summer otherwise.

Yeah this defeat tokk a little of the gloss of what was a fantastic summer otherwise.

England played okay but credit to the West Indies they played well and showed some backbone for a change.

I still think we were a little unlucky with Flintoffs lbw appeal when they were 8 down but thems the breaks I suppose.
