Do you really believe MM's major motivation in making this film was money? Would that alone explain why he has always and consistently promoted left-wing ideas and libertarian ideals in his comedy, TV and movies? Has it all been one money-generating hoax?
Would the same thing apply to someone like Mark Thomas?
MM's books are not driven by hatred of the US- quite the opposite, which is precisely why he stays in the country.
I admit F 9/11 contains editorial bias- which weakens its impact overall. But the overall thrust of the film- that Bush stole the election, that Bush is a war criminal, that Bush is in the pockets of his Saudi mentors- is, I believe, true.
The reason Bush is forging ahead (and will most likely win) is that America does not like facing reality. They still believe in the Disneyfied version of their history; and would rather persist with a corrupt and dangerous president than admit their country's institutions have become peopled by villains and imperialists.
I'm not criticising you Dibble- feel free to disagree!

Re: Farenheit 9/11
Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if there were elements of truth in Moore's work - but 'war criminal' and Saudi stooge? This is just ridiculous sloganeering that would do justice to Mao?s Little Red book. 'War criminal' is bandied about so often nowadays that it has become ridiculous and meaningless - In the past you had two round up at least three million people and systematically force them to breath poison gas to earn your war criminal stripes. Now, anyone who incurs the pretentious displeasure of any anti-globalisation nutmeg is blithely denounced as a 'war criminal'.
And speaking of gassing, why didn't the middleclass take to the streets to protest about Sadam's pre-meditated gassing of 5,000 Kurds. Wasn't that a trendy enough cause? Why didn't they take to the streets to protest about the barbaric cruelties Sadam inflicted on their fellow human beings every day? Nobody into that this week? Not cool enough? Not trendy enough? Not anti capitalist enough? Wouldn't be much fun demonstrating on your own, eh? Much better to latch onto a bigger bandwagon, much more fun. Good vibe, nice day out.
Which brings me back round to posing the question why should the ordinary Joe on the street work himself into a lather over the whether Bush stole the election? ? Would it make much difference to the life of the ordinary Joe? Would it make much difference to Joe Public it was suddenly revealed that George had been cow towing to the Saudis? (Though why this might be when the US could blow the fuckers to kingdom come, should they get lairy, eludes me).
Ordinary Joes should be cornered about what the government is up to - but not necessarily with respect of foreign relations and pretentious, middleclass, socialist agendas. No, they should be much more concerned about what?s going on here, at home - civil liberties, surveillance, and being dictated to. And also about all those poncy PC rules, laws, and regulations that are being heaped on us every week, and yes, they should be concerned about the chav menace. Can anyone explain why no one is taking to the streets to speak out against all that?

For someone who is always telling us that he doesn't especially favour Dubya, you always strangely end up giving us the opposite impression.
MM gives chapter and verse in Stupid White Men. Now, go on and tell us how he made all that up.

"Do you really believe MM's major motivation in making this film was money?"....yes.
"MM's books are not driven by hatred of the US- quite the opposite, which is precisely why he stays in the country."..No, he stay,s in the country to antagonise everybody, and make money! lets face it, where else would he go, if he spewed out his bollocks anywhere else, he,d be deported (apart from the UK of course) he could rent a place with Hammza!...like Wandsworth.
I think you fall for the Media hype Ben, it,s cool to hate the USA, Bush, and all things generally American. and as for Moore,s 'comedy' he,s as funny as piles.
My personal opinion of him is that he,s a loathsome cunt, with no talent, and a bad comb-over, they should fucking send him to iraq, they,d love him, especially without his head.

Dibble- there are many things in here I agree with. ESPECIALLY about surveillance, civil liberties and, yes, the chav menace. (I have observed an interesting phenomenon recently: black chavs. I had previously thought 'chavdom' was a mainly white preserve, but these lads had it all: the clothes, the cars.)
I even concede your point about 'war criminal' being bandied about all too readily- you're right there. 'Anti-globalisation nutmegs'- couldn't agree more. Even more than the chav I abhor the crusty. (I feel a new thread coming on.)
But Dibble, couldn't there be a connection between surveillance overload, civil liberty erosion, chavs and the educational impoverishment of them: and the styles of government favoured by Messrs. Bush and Blair? What is it that's driving the movement towards the police state we are heading for? Perceived FEAR. That's Bush's speciality. To get us all so terrified of each other, of the blacks, of the Muslims, of Satan, that we conveniently overlook the one thing we really should be afraid of: the autocractic principle at work in government, the control of the press, even control of our minds and ideas through political correctness and the like.
I don't think the anti-war protests were a single-issue event. I think there would have been a lot of people on the streets that day who feel exactly the same way on these key issues as you.
