Well, yes, I was being a tad general there: but of course, aside from our usual callousness in areas where self-interest doesn't obtain (our latest glaring absence is from the Sudan......), we couldn't spare any forces for Rwanda as they were all over the place fighting for the US' interests...........

Afghanistan is a mountainous country, ideal for guerrilla fighters. No one who has tried invading the country has ever got anything out of it apart from a severely bloody nose.

Noticeable that we stood by while Buddhist statues were destroyed by the Taliban, the women treated as scum, and they fostered religious hatred and backed terrorism.

I'm not sure if Gall is still with us, or that obsequious old lush Sir Alistair Burnett. I suppose I could check.

And what has been happening in Africa for the last ten years is atrocious. Rwanda, Liberia, Senegal, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Congo. And that's just the wars. Famines still stalk the continent, and the amount of people infected with HIV and AIDS is almost unbelievable. All the scare headlines of the early 80s about an epidemic have come true---but it's only Africa, so who cares.

Actually WHO does care, but few if any governments do.
