Violent crime includes baseball bats, etc? No sane criminal would go up against an armed man with nothing but a piece of wood.....I'm suggesting that this is too vague a category to be meaningful: but to a determined criminal, taking a heavier calibre firearm out on a 'job' might be a logical response on his part, leadong to a sort of 'arms-race' between victims and perpetrators.
Might be interesting to re-examine those stats after a few years: I suspect they represent only a temporary respite.

Would look something like a cross between Police Academy & Sledgehammer or Dirty Harry IMHO
