American films about the 2nd world war have always being insular ,but i've been to the cemeteries in Normandy,France and they're full of Brits yanks Irish canucks and every other civilised country on earth ;and for what they did i'm eternally grateful.
But the bottom line is president Roosevelt knew that if the Brits and their allies fell that America would be next, and god bless him he dragged a reluctant country to help us win.

Please do tell us what you have against "Hollywood".

He had little choice once Adolf had declared war on the US. This is the whole point, it was Adolf Hitler's decision to declare war on the US that brought them into the war in Europe, not any wish on their part to save Europe. However once in the European war the American commitment was exemplary.

nice as they are and as good as it was for us to have them on side, the yanks can never be relied upon for accuracy, they fight like they make porn, if in doubt spray everyone.

about a year ago i was listening to a radio program where the interviewer was talking to a nice lady minister of tourism from Shaffhausen in Switzerland who was saying how they rebuilt their town after the war, in a style of housing similar to what was once there, at which point the interviewer says, hold on, i thought that Switzerland was neutral in the last war, nice lady minister says, yes of course, but unfortunately we were bombed by the americans in 1945. oh dear!

I think ost people here think Hitler made his biggest tactical error when declaring war against the States- and that it was long after Pearl Harbor.
And there is a good deal of evidence now to suggest that the Lusitania incident was known about, if not colluded in, by the British government, with the express intention of dragging the US into the War.

Don't forget Audie Murphy.

He's a fine actor (e.g. Man for All Seasons, not all that Hollywood Biblical crap !), and pobably a decent guy- but his gun-stance is sadly misguided.
It's detestable that people shpould mock him for a physical condition over which he has no control- and I assume that sensible people will realise that, and draw the appropriate conclusion about the critics.

Kazan made some good movies, sure- but that is FAR outweighed by the fact that, out of cowardice or personal ambition, he ruined some of his collegaues' lives.
That is simply unforgiveable.
