I went to a grammar school. We played rugby. Most of us loved football. But I liked playing rugby as well.
When I went to Manchester University I played football. When playing for the University we often share a coach with the Rugby Union and Rugby League lads. The League lads were hard. Fucking hard. The Union lads liked nothing better than to take off their clothes (on the coach even when NOT drunk) and play unfunny practical jokes on each other whilst naked. They were not tough at all, but thought they were. They were complete fucking arseholes. But they deferred to the League boys - always.
It gave me an aversion to the Union code that I cannot and never wish to remove. But good luck to England and a great achievement for winning. Now fuck off and shut up.
ps I play golf. In my area there are several courses and it is definitely NOT a class based game around here. We only worry about pricks from other parts of the country coming here to live or buying second homes and spoiling it.

Would not say Rugby is played just by posh schools etc. Don't forget alot of the old minning villages in Wales have rugger in their roots.

Standing 6 ft 3 I prefer Praying Mantis
The local Rugby Union side were always trying to get me but i was wise to the perils of the game having watched my father sitting under a heat ray lamp after every game for hours
Not my idea of fun

"Golf: a good walk, ruined".
Mark Twain, apparently.
And rugger is for many Brits inextricably linked with the UPPER, not the middle classes. I don't think hating it's a money thing, more a class thing.
Either way, many people would be happier with some people being loudmouth Loadsamoneys if we didn't have others living below the poverty line, or indeed have a poverty line at all................
