You must remember that Radio 1 is 24/7 and has achieved what it set out to do - to become an almost exclusively 'yoof' station with much emphasis on the 'specialist' demograph, meaning endless hours of garage, R'n'B, and myriad dance variants. Yes, the DJ's have become slightly faceless and trend-concerned ("text us your views..."), but doubtless they know their stuff and, as such, this is of more importance to their target audience.

Of the daytime lot, Whiley's okay, if a little contrived, and Mark & Lard, entertaining as they are, have yet to scale the heights of their evening show. They're on the move soon, apparently, but, like Peel and D. Baker, are thankfully blessed with that special quality that means they will take their audience with them. Which must be a worry for the bosses left with the likes of Moyles ("The new DLT" - Peel) and the excrutiating Colin & Edith (like two blocks of polystyrene rubbing up together).

Personally I think daytime radio is shit full stop but I must admit I do like Pete Tong on Radio 1.

It does seem that people do regard Mark & Lard a v funny - which they are so I hereby crown them the undisputed kings of radio 1.
