That was the one, Steve. A Glaswegian runaway called Tommy or Johnny. Harrowing stuff at the time. But now, sadly, it's a commonplace story.

On this subject of homeless people who keep to themselves, has anyone noticed how many of these people are middle aged or elderly. The sad fact is most of the Television Appeals are focused on the young rather than on this other vunerable section of society.Everyone has a right to a roof over there heads and a responsibity to work for a living to pay the rent . providing they are not disabled in some way , but this section of society seems to be excluded from getting back into employment by society. A lot of these people have spent most of there lives in useful employment and when their circumstances change that's it,and they are abandoned.
Now we mentioned the ex Forces personnel who are on the streets and from Ace's post it appears this problem has been recognised and is being delt with, however how many other employers who lay staff off try to help them get back to employment. Very few, and one disgraceful occurance of this has been the City of London in the past two years over 60,000 people have been laid of and less than 5 % have had any assistance in gaining emplyment, how long before some of these people are on the streets.
Anyway thats my comment it just annoys me that in the las 15 years we have moved from a community of people to a community of individuals and it has been for the detriment of us all

SSSSSHHHHHHH Don't draw attention to it in case Wooders & Co. threaten to cut my sack off if I don't remove it.

Actually, now would be a perfect time for me to label this, "petition to bring Brucie back"...only problem being, I can't remember where I linked the bastard thing from.

Nothice how the mods haven't got back to me yet?
It's a conspracy I tell ya, a grassy knoll, 2nd gunman, drone planes, drunk driver conspiracy.

Having lived near to London for many years I've seen my fair share of down & outs & beggers.

Scots, Irish, English. Ex public school types, people with learning diffculties, young, old.

It used to be can you spare a few bob for a cuppa & you really thought that thats what they would do.....you give them a few bob & they would go to a cafe & get a cuppa. Now you wonder what they would spend it on. Drugs, drink, a quick trip to the bookies hoping to turn it into a bit more cash!! Perhaps society has changed!!

You have all heard of the guy who has been banned from Manchester city centre for begging to fund his drug problems. Said he could make ?400.00 a week & spend it on drugs!!

Yes the worst types are the Eastern Europen looking gypsies who harrass you on the tube. But believe me it's worst in some parts of Europe where these gypsy types set up camps on sports fields etc. We have heard of some begging then jumping into a car at the end of the day & go off back to the crooks who set these begging gangs up. I never give to these people cos I know they are just a gang on a scam!!

I don't like giving to beggers cos I'll rather they do something about themselves, get themselves sorted out, rather than fund a drink, drug or betting habit they may have.
