Yeah, well it lost it's "appeal" around about 10 years ago when they started sticking "up skirt" pics of absolute nobodys on the front cover every day rather than the classic pin-ups (teresa may, charmaine sinclair,LDM etc)...that and charging around 50p for it.
Best put out of its misery really..won't be missed as much as it would've 10 years ago.

"I'm always confused about newspaper, "Sales" and "Circulation" figures. I thought this was the number distributed to all the shops, but they take back the unsold papers. So in reality the actual sales of the Sport might be a heck of alot less than 70,000. Maybe 7000?"
The number of copies distributed to the shops and any free copies given away is the distribution figure. The number of copies invoiced to the shops (i.e. sold) is the circulation figure.

Sullivan sold the Sport 'empire' years ago, so had nothing to do with it any longer.
Don't know what issue you saw on sale because it hasn't been published since last Friday, it is not been sold as a going concern.

Sullivan, ever one to see the way the things were going, off loaded it for ?40m. He later lent the new owners a million or so in return for 10%.

Re: R.I.P Daily sport
speaking as a punter - certain genres of printed media are going to die soon, as a result of the internet, and porn is probably the biggest loser of them all
why would I as a punter want to pay for a "newspaper" which offers me nothing more than a couple of teaser shots, of possibly only a couple of girls that I find attractive in each paper, when I can see harder content on the internet, of girls that I want to see more of, without having 30 pages of "others" that I never look at?
to me, the Sport has always been the low-brow paper catering for people who are after a quick look at tits and arse, as opposed to something like a fully naked model or something harder, but that doesn't interest me, and I'm sorry to say but the "glamour" industry is going to lose out more as the next generation get older because when I was a kid, Razzle et al were what I considered "porn" - to the teenagers currently, Internet porn videos are what they've grown up on, not some upskirt tease shots or a couple of pics of LDM's boobs
I'm sorry to say, but in my view, UK glamour modelling (and softcore porn in general) as it currently stands is probably on a downward slope, gradually losing it's audience as the next generation get older, and won't care for a couple of shots of LDM's boobs when they've already seen her hardcore videos - it's not the same market any more
I'm trying to be respectful here that some of the UK porn market is a "softcore" market, but in my view - it's had it's day and will lose out in the end

I've always hated these redtop tabloid rags. Couldn't care less if they all go out of print. Load of mindless rubbish.

It's like people using a horse and cart after the invention of the car. They co-existed for a while as the cart (printed media/The Sport/softporn) was cheaper and more reliable than the car (free internet porn) but as technology improved, so did the performance and as a result, just a decade later, no-one drives horses into petrol stations looking for the hole to insert the gas pump into anymore.
Easily the most profound thought I've had in years.
