Grrr, I'm mixing up two different films, but the comments stand on both.

Budget has nothing to do with camera angles and performance. Which as I said in my post was my main issue with brit porn.

I can understand the cost issues involved with the BBFC, it's a sorry affair. However, in half of these movies the ingredients are there already, it seems that it's not stirred up properly most of the time.

One thing I wonder is, who actually influences UK producers? If I wanted to start a production company I would soak up as much good pornography as I could and copy ideas that I like, and take note of what works and what doesn't. There's a gallon of decent euro/us porn out there so it's not hard to see what's selling. Yet, despite this the UK product seems to be completely different from anything out there and frankly I don't understand it.

I don't think it takes a genuis to figure out why the american product is so much more pleasing to the eye, and half the time it's shot by performers/former performers who have hardly been to film school....the UK still seems to be stuck in the amateur market.

I'd heard alot about Relish but I'd never actually seen a DVD, so I got Irregular practice 2. Sorry but I thought it was complete tripe. I don't see how you can complain about budgets when you're spending cash on comedy sets/scripts and ambulances to drive round in.

Unfortunately it does matter usually because if the budget is not a lot then most of these producers cannot afford people like me to shoot it properly for them. So they either get who they can afford or do it themselves. Which if they are new is half the problem until they gain experience. Shit we were all probably bad when we first started (although I did win two yank oscars for some of my camera work in my 'early' filming) some get better and survive others don't.

Luke you have interestingly picked at what I said but I wasnt in anyway moaning about our budget or the BBFC. Before any prod embarks on creating a product they should check their budgets and make sure that the worse case scenario is worth their effort and input. Then and only then should they decide if they can actually do it and more over if they can sell it. All this has nothing to do with the BBFC because they are a costing just like DV tape, lights and birds.

Its interesting that you mention camera angles and put down Relish but the alternative is a guy with a bird in a travellodge with a tripod in the corner and loads of hiss. I like to see comedy/sets/scripts/ambulances because if they are using them this time next time they'll experiment a bit more and who knows where that will lead.

Luke if you choose for your glass to be half empty so be it but for me mines half full!

I disagree, like I said. If it cost money then why is it performers such as Manuel Ferrera, Steve Holmes, Brandon Iron, Toni Ribas, Vince Voyeur, Erik Everhard (etc etc etc) can turn their hand to producing with excellent results without to much fuss. It's not like you need to employ Steven Speilberg to hold the camera in the right position. I wonder how many big US gonzo companies (red light, zero tolerance, platinum X etc etc) hire film 'professionals' to direct and shoot for them? none.

There are people on this forum who have been shooting porn for years and I can think of a good few people who still put out shit constantly.

Because you let them get away with it chapel2k, take your complaint to Trading Standards and ask them to look into it just because it is porn dosnt mean your rights as a consumer are not protected, not only are you being ripped off so are the films producers, sex shops that sell pirated films assume that because it is porn the punters will be to embarrased to complain so do us all a favour and complain.

I can't be arsed to trawl through all the thread but it starts
"Author: lukeolson

I had a bunch of DVD's delivered this week, there was some UK Student House, Real Couples, Johnny Rebel, John Mason, Relish, Pete le meat and some Poppy Morgan etc..."
Delivered, what does that mean?
Did he buy them or what?
Apart from his comments, some of which I agree with, is this a troll?

To a certain extent you are correct but those guys would have learnt their trade from some of the best JD, Stagliano, John Keeler and remember in the US it has long been an industry in every sense of the word with a lot more people and a lot more talented people doing it than here, 30 years worth or more. Here it is still a cottage industry for many reasons but lack of investment being the biggest so I can't see how we can compete. Some of us here have over 20 years experience shooting for the bigger companies Worldwide but guys like Lindsey and Terry shoot great "natural" stuff.

Our business reflects the mainstream movie business here in many ways - mostly rubbish but sometimes brilliant for in my opinion the same reason - lack of money.

The most surprising thing about our subject matter - 'porn' is that I bet you didn't know that all these movies sell about the same amount which isn't huge BUT the glory is that most punters WILL and DO come back and buy another in the hope of finding what they want.
