I know this is going to stir some of you guys up, but I believe it to be true.
We don't have any real production values in Brit porn - unlike our U.S. cousins.
I'm not talking about the super-glossy Vivid or Wicked stuff (yawn!!) I'm talking the same sort of 'gonzo' DV cam genre type stuff that we seem to have taken so much to our hearts in this country.
But the Yanks do gonzo SOOOOOO much better than we do.
They aim for at least some modest level of 'production value' and it's not just in terms of lighting, it's also in the editing, the direction and the camera technique, the latter two, by the way DON'T cost a penny - it's all about SKILL.
And skill is something that doesn't have to be expensive - just a willingness on the behalf of the director/cameraman to improve themselves.
But so-called Brit porn 'Directors' usually have zero skills and little if no aspiration to better the work they knock out. I've heard people say that the punters will still fork out the same cash for film no matter how good or bad the technical quality of the finished product - bollocks!!
This is the same bullshit the no-talents keep pushing out. Brit porn would move a damn sight more 'units' globally if the production values were as good as say the likes of Jules Jordan (Evil Angel) - which aren't as expensive as you might think.
I was a Broadcast TV lighting cameraman for years and have made a couple of forays (in the past) into porn for a well-known euro company, but shot in the UK. Our crew/kit budgets were the same as the average stuff made here - most of the money went on the (euro) talent.
But we knocked out a bunch of scenes with an inexperienced assistant and I've got to say they looked damn good!
I retired back to 'normal work'...!
My 'assistant' went on to work in the U.S. as a much-in-demand porn cameraman - because he'd bothered to improve his work and cared enough to aspire to better things.
Joe king mentioned in this thread something about 'orange low level lighting' - this could be very easily solved by doing a 'White Balance' on the camera - merely case of bothering to read the camera manual!!!
That sort of apathy just sums up my disdain for Brit product.
British porn would be able to contend with the likes of U.S. and Euro porn if this brainless amateur attitude didn't pervade the industry so much.
No wonder most of our top on-screen talent bugger-off to the U.S. to make their careers.
We generally have a short-sighted attitude towards quality in this country, though there is one Brit company with a bit of foresight and an eye for decent-looking porn - I won't name 'em because I'll be accused of being a mole of theirs...! but I'm sure you might know who I'm talking about!!
