Sadly I don't think the rate is down to anything but whatit actually costs to do here so charging girls more wouldnt really work...guys would just have to accept that was the going rate for getting in to porn...of course with less male talent that may mean more work for all...I suspect it will simply mean the top elite just do even more of the work!
Why wouldn't it work?

What is wrong with proportional charges? In principle and in theory it is fair, equitable, reasonable, sensible and workable.
Why shouldn't the cost of a test equate to a days rates? If a girl has to do one shoot to pay for her test - why should a bloke have to do between three and five?

Some great points here. I get my test done every month and Jack is right about us guys having to do a few shoots just to pay for one of the NEW tests.... Which im not saying is not important!!
The thing is though its catch 22 as producers can get guys to do shoots for free anywhere and anytime basically - why pay us?!?
Whats the answer.....? Like Dan says With all this happening now will we all get a fairer crack of the whip or will the gap widen just like the premiership???

Why wouldn't it work...because IF the tests actually COST ?250 do you really think there is any chance the private organisation that do the tests will give you them for ?100 just cos your a guy and take a ?150 loss? I think not.
Producers can 'currently' get guys for free....if the guys are required to have a ?250 test then I suspect that will change for any shoots where condoms are not to be used...also there may be a decent chance of the guys being able to ask for and get the same fees that Tony and Steve get, not the measly ?100 that we are offered (if your lucky!)...why not, we do the same job, take the same risks and unlike the girls we can't fake it if were not turned on!

P.S. Did any of this actually get discussed in the meeting? As it seems only the main well paid talent was there as they were the only ones invited, it probably wouldn't have even been an issue worth raising for anyone??

Dan - if it is being done under the auspices of BAIHA then I would suggest that the rates would be STANDARD RATES as negotiated by the BAIHA.
Why would they offer male tests at "a loss" - becaue they'd be subsidised by the cost to females...
Are you not familiar with the term "loss leaders"? Industry makes a loss on one item but makes up for it on another - in this instance - they'd be making the profit on the female test in order to offer tests to males at an appropriate rate and therevy keep the industry ticking over...
Katalin makes a fair point - but come on.... we're talking logistics here! Getting tests done at two seperate clinics?
We;ve gotta keep this simple AND cost effective.

Explain to me something, if anyone can.
U.S. cost of a full AIM test even with price rise $110
U.S. Guys Pay $300 or more
U.S. Girls Pay $500-$1500 dependant on level
U.K. cost of a full Aim equivalent ?250
U.K. Guys Pay ?100 (if your lucky) unless your in the elite when you still might not cover the cost of a test with one shoot
U.S. Girls Pay ?200-?350 dependant upon level
So in the states the cost per test has never been more than a third of the cost of doing one shoot even if you are a guy, if you sneeze in the states without private healthcare you can lose your house.
Over here it costs more than some or the girls get!
If AIM can do it all for $110 why is it so expensive here?

Fair enough I will go with the guy's test costs thing but if we had one clinic, where would it be? Generally everything is in London but if you live in Glasgow you are looking at ?60 plus in travel just to get your test done...for that matter it can cost that by train from here in Nottingham! London isn't at all central in the UK. unlike the states who has one small area i.e. L.A. in fact alot in Chatsworth, we shoot all over the UK.
I agree 100% that is the cost is prohibitive, which to most guys it is (and lets face it there aren't many guys in the UK working regularly) then it will be certain to pretty much undermine the point of BAIHA.What price on our lives Sandie, well the producers seem to put one on it every time we shoot and its ?100! I partly suspect that thisis because we are prepared to accept it in a vague and pointless attempt to get up to big boy status rather than budget.

If it's like the states all the tests including the STD stuff will need to be on the proper paper, seal and all so I would imagine that option is out.
